Why would someone doing microsuction deliberately leave wax behind? šŸ‘‚

Because the goal isn’t to create the most satisfying video.

If wax is very hard, very deep, close to the eardrum, or removal is becoming uncomfortable, sometimes the appropriate decision is to stop rather than force it.

That might mean further softening, reassessment or another appointment.

Good ear care isn’t simply:

see wax → remove everything.

It involves judgement, visualisation, case selection and knowing your limits.

Would you rather someone finish at all costs or stop and bring you back if necessary?

A suction machine doesn’t make someone competent.
The equipment matters but so do anatomy, case selection, red flags, judgement and knowing your limits.

The part of a microsuction appointment most people never see… šŸ‘‚

The procedure doesn’t begin when the suction tip enters the ear.

Before a patient arrives there’s equipment to check, fresh consumables to prepare, visualisation to set up and a clinical plan for what happens if something unexpected is found.

Sometimes the most important decision in ear care is actually knowing when not to proceed.

The wax removal itself may only be one part of the appointment.

I’m filming more behind-the-scenes clinic content because I think people should see what actually goes into providing ear care.

And next: what does all this equipment actually cost? šŸ‘€

Full breakdown coming to YouTube.

The NHS quietly stepped back from routine ear wax removal in many areas and the effects are still being felt. šŸ‘‚

For a lot of people, ear wax build-up is not just a minor inconvenience.

It can affect:

* hearing
* comfort
* communication
* day-to-day life

According to RNID campaign data, millions of people in England now have no NHS access to ear wax removal, while many more are facing a postcode lottery depending on where they live.

That has had a ripple effect:

* more people trying to self-manage at home
* more patients needing to go private
* more demand for ear care services
* and growing interest in microsuction training

But increased demand should never mean lower standards.

Ear care is still clinical work.
Seeing wax is not the same as understanding the ear.
And equipment alone does not replace judgement.

That’s exactly why this week I’m breaking down the theory most beginners miss in microsuction and ear care.

How much does it actually cost to set up for professional microsuction? šŸ‘‚

It’s easy to look at an earwax-removal appointment and think the only equipment involved is a suction machine.

In reality, a proper setup can include:

• a microscope, loupes or otoendoscope
• a medical suction unit
• Zoellner suction tubes and fine tips
• suction tubing and collection bags
• wax hooks and crocodile forceps
• gloves, PPE and infection-control consumables
• clinical waste and ongoing equipment costs

And the biggest variation is often the visualisation system.

A clinical microscope can run into several thousand pounds.
Loupes can range from a few hundred pounds upwards.
Professional otoendoscope systems can also cost well into four figures.

There’s no single ā€œcorrectā€ setup, different practitioners use different systems depending on training, experience, setting and workflow.

The important thing is that the person carrying out the procedure can see clearly, work safely and recognise when not to proceed.

This clip is taken from a longer video where I break down the equipment, advantages, disadvantages and costs in more detail.

What I wish someone had told me before I started doing microsuction for a living… šŸ‘‚

There’s a huge amount to learn when you first get into ear microsuction.

What equipment do you actually need?
What cases should you avoid?
What are the common mistakes?
What red flags matter?
What does ā€œsafe practiceā€ really look like?

A full theory course can cost hundreds of pounds, and while proper practical training is essential, not everyone wants to commit £400+ before they even understand the basics.

That’s why I’m creating:

The Microsuction Primer
What I wish someone told me before I started doing this for a living

A short, practical 14–20 page paid guide designed to give healthcare professionals a clearer foundation before they invest further.

It will cover the important bits without pretending to replace supervised hands-on training or competency sign-off.

Planned launch price: £29.99

šŸ‘‚ The uncomfortable truth about ear microsuction training…

Microsuction is widely regarded as a safe method of wax removal in trained hands but safe does not mean risk-free.

That’s exactly why ear microsuction should never be treated like a quick money-making add-on.

This is not just about ā€œremoving wax.ā€
It’s about:

• knowing when not to proceed
• spotting red flags
• recognising abnormal findings
• understanding when a client needs onward review
• working within safe clinical limits

We’ve seen clients come to us after choosing the cheapest option first - only to realise afterwards that when it comes to your ears, price should never be the only decision.

And that’s also why The Ear Doctor Academy does not believe in training just anyone for the sake of a sale.

We believe training should build:

āœ” knowledge
āœ” judgement
āœ” practical safety
āœ” confidence
āœ” respect for your limits

That’s why we’re creating a paid low-ticket ebook for healthcare professionals who want a smarter, safer entry point into ear microsuction training.

šŸ‘‚ You couldn’t even see the eardrum at the beginning…

This patient had a significant build-up of dry, impacted earwax obstructing the ear canal.

Because some of the wax was firmly attached, the important part wasn’t trying to pull everything out at once. It was gradually working around it with microsuction under direct vision until the canal could be cleared.

And then comes the satisfying part…

The eardrum finally comes back into view. šŸ‘€

If your ears feel:

• blocked
• muffled
• uncomfortable
• or you suspect a build-up of wax

avoid putting cotton buds or other objects inside the ear canal and consider having them properly checked.

šŸ‘‚ You probably do at least ONE of these every day…

We spend a lot of time thinking about our teeth, skin and eyes but how often do you actually think about your ears?

Some everyday habits can contribute to ear-canal irritation, wax problems or put your hearing at risk.

šŸŽ§ Frequent earbud use may contribute to wax retention in people prone to build-up
🚫 Cotton buds can push wax deeper into the canal
šŸ”Š Repeated loud sound exposure can damage hearing
šŸŠ Water trapped in the ear can increase the risk of outer-ear infection
😣 Stress can make tinnitus more noticeable and may worsen jaw-related ear fullness
🤧 Colds and allergies can affect pressure equalisation through the Eustachian tubes
🧓 Hair and skincare products can sometimes irritate sensitive ear-canal skin

Which one surprised you most?
