I’ve been thinking a lot about how I actually make healthy habits work in my life.

I call it pocketing habits.

Instead of completely changing my routine, I look for little pockets where I can fit something healthy in without making it a whole thing.

I train at home while watching a show I like. PJ gets me out walking twice a day, and when we go to the beach, he runs around while I get in the sea.

I’ve overthought this for years, probably why I didn’t post on Uplift for a year. I thought I needed to show the perfect fitness lifestyle.

But that’s not how I live, and it’s not how I coach.

I look at your actual life, personality, good days and off days, and work out what genuinely fits.
finding the pockets

I think we make healthy living far more complicated than it needs to be.

A little fitness update 🤍

This was me about a week before my cast came off after breaking my wrist in June.

This has probably been the hardest year of my life. I feel like I’ve been hit with the unimaginable month after month, and fitness has always been one of the things that kept me sane.

So I’m really trying to build it back up again. Not just because I want to be strong or look a certain way, but because having this part of my life back gives me something I can actually control.

Fitness is something I’ve always genuinely enjoyed. Something you can keep working on and improving at, even when life gets really fu***ng hard and everything else feels out of your control.

I’m still weaker on my injured side and still get some discomfort through my forearm, and there’s definitely a bit of a funny movement pattern when I’m training things like my biceps 😂

Here’s to trying my best again and getting back into it 🤍

A key reminder for your nervous system: not everything needs immediate attention.
Breathe. Soften. Your body doesn’t need to stay on high alert.

Workout duration doesn’t determine results.
The stimulus does.

Whether a session is 15 minutes or 60 minutes, what matters is that the muscles receive sufficient mechanical tension, volume, and intensity to trigger adaptation.

If the required stimulus is achieved, the body responds the same. Longer sessions only matter if they add productive volume.
If they don’t, they’re just time.

All my weight sessions this week have been 20-25 minutes and they are so effective.

Sometimes I like taking my time training, sometimes I want to get in and out, both are effective when executed properly 🐦‍🔥

Stretching can make pain worse.

If a muscle or tendon is reactive, aggressive stretching increases strain and perceived threat.

Sometimes the answer isn’t “open it more”.
It’s “load it safely and calm the system”.

Strength and safety heal more than force.

Injuries don’t always start with pain.

Most injuries don’t happen in one moment.
They build quietly through inflammation, fatigue, grief, stress, and nervous systems that never get a chance to settle.

When you’re dysregulated, your body heals slower.
When you push through that, tissues don’t adapt they break down.

This isn’t about being soft.
It’s about being intelligent with load, recovery, and timing.

Learning to pause before the injury is a skill.
One most of us were never taught.

If your body’s whispering lately, this is your permission to listen.

Training without breaks leads to fatigue, inflammation, and injury.

Training hard without breaks increases inflammation, fatigue, and injury risk. The body adapts in cycles. Stress plus recovery equals progress. No recovery means breakdown. Deloads, lighter weeks, and holidays lower cortisol, protect joints and tendons, and keep you training all year.

This is not falling off. This is intelligent training.

Ever notice pain vanishes mid‑workout… then hits after?

That’s not weakness.
That’s a nervous system that finally felt safe.

Warmth, movement, and rhythm reduce threat signals.
When you stop, the protection comes back.

Healing isn’t about smashing tightness, it’s about teaching your body it doesn’t need armour anymore.

“Pain that warms up is protection, not damage.”
