For Lucas Schmidt, clear vision is essential.

As a professional rugby player for Harlequins, he had relied on glasses and contact lenses for most of his life because of his strong prescription. But on the rugby pitch, they could affect his performance and ability to see the details around him.

Laser eye surgery wasn't suitable for his eyes, so Mr Mark Wilkins recommended IPCL, a newer type of implantable lens designed to correct his prescription from inside the eye.

The result has been transformational.

Gareth had worn glasses for more than 20 years.

So he decided to explore laser eye surgery.

What does it actually take to make a lens that will go inside someone's eye?

We visited the Rayner lens factory to find out.
It was fascinating to see just how much precision, technology and craftsmanship goes into manufacturing each individual lens.
These are incredibly sophisticated pieces of technology, designed to become part of someone's eye and help them see clearly again.

Seeing the process first hand gave us a completely new appreciation for the work that goes on behind every lens we use.

Simon had lived with floaters for some time, but eventually they became impossible to ignore.

Martin had been experiencing problems with his eyesight for years.

At 70, cataracts were affecting his vision and everyday life. He decided it was time to stop waiting.
