Your fear of what could go wrong, also makes it harder for you to just have a go.

Trying something is challenging, especially if you're not very good at it yet.

Hell, you may even be outright s**t at it to begin with.

Newsflash, you need to do something many times to learn and improve a skill.

Perfectionists don't like "just having a go".

They want to be great at the thing straight away.

Perfectionistic ADHDers even more so, who has the patience to keep practising until you've made progress?!

But if you don't give it a go, you'll never know if the thing you really really want is possible for you.

Almost didn't post this...

"It's too long"

"I'm too ranty"

"I'm in a sports top, it's unprofessional"

But I sent it to several trusted people and they loved the authentic outpouring of frustration. Naming what they are also feeling.

Goes to show, connection over perfection.
So that is the hill I'll die on, that we need to release these pressures we are under, and be vulnerable with others. Ask for help. Say you're struggling. Nobody has just got this perfectly.

It's unedited because I can't be arsed to trim or replace bits or learn how to use AI to make it into some cool attention keeping reel.

You get two stickers in there, okay?! I'm tired.
Thank f*ck schools open again soon.

Also, follow along for less angry watermelon chopping videos too - if you want to give yourself the same permission to be imperfect and good enough so that others can see you as you are, and still choose you.

Tag someone you think needs to see this! I'll go first.

You're not "too old" to go to a festival.

And yes, "clothes" is an annoyingly accurate reply to the worry around "what shall I wear?!"

My ADHD brain was overthinking whether I would go to on my own to see , as none of my friends were available to go.

So I thought "f*ck it", I'm going on my own.

Let's see if I'm right in predicting that I'll just meet some random nice people and hang out with them - the wonder of festivals and the joy of music will sort that out.

I remind myself that the anticipatory anxiety of worrying about doing the thing, is usually worse than just doing the thing. So here we go!

When it rains, it pours on the sandwich generation of neurodivergent mothers who carry the needs of everyone else, in the midst of perimenopausal hormonal f*ckery.

You're not alone in carrying a lot. I know this as a Clinical Psychologist specialising in mid life women with busy brains and busy lives.

Keeping it real rather than perfect, unscripted and unedited and unfiltered (because who has the time?!)

Thank f the schools open again soon.

Also, RIP Dolly Parton.

10/10 recommend doing the thing instead of just thinking about doing the thing.

Maybe the heatwave has unblocked me, and released my na**lm era...

Or it's the fifteen years of specialising in treating perfectionism that has finally caught up. 😂

Have a read through and see if you resonate - that overthinking and second guessing yourself is keeping you stuck in comparisonitis whilst watching everyone else around you 'doing the thing' you want to do.
