Anger is one emotion many of us just aren't taught to express in a healthy way.

In this video, Dr Courtney Raspin talks about how anger shows up in childhood, how it shapes the way we handle it as adults, and some of the playful, creative ways she helps clients let it out safely in session (beanbags included)!

So many people wait until things feel unbearable before reaching out, as if struggling "enough" is the price of admission. It isn't. If something's been sitting heavy, or you're just not quite yourself, that's reason enough.

We dug this blog out of the archives but the message still holds: you don't need a crisis to deserve support, and starting sooner often makes the road ahead a little easier. Read more here:

Recovery isn't a straight line, and that can be one of the hardest parts to sit with.

When the rules start to loosen, it's common for the eating disorder voice to get louder before it fades. That's not a sign you're going backwards. It's often a sign the eating disorder is losing its grip, and that's uncomfortable, but it's progress.

We've written more about this, including what self-trust looks like in the messy middle of recovery, over on our blog. https://www.altumhealth.co.uk/rebuilding-identity-eating-disorder/

Mistakes can feel much bigger than they really are, especially when there's pressure to get things right.

For many young people, these last few weeks have brought exam results and all the emotions that come with them. But whether it's a grade, a decision at work or something that's happened in everyday life, one mistake or disappointment doesn't define who you are.

Swipe through for a reminder that setbacks are part of being human, not proof that you've failed.

If this resonates with you, Altum Health founder, Dr Courtney Raspin explores why we find mistakes so difficult and how we can begin to respond to ourselves with more compassion in this blog. https://www.altumhealth.co.uk/mistakes/

Saying any of these things is harder than it looks.

Speaking up when something doesn’t feel right. Asking someone to slow down. Saying you’ve been misunderstood. For a lot of people, these are exactly the things that feel impossible in relationships outside the therapy room too.

That’s the point. What happens between you and your therapist isn’t a rehearsal for real life. It’s a real relationship, happening in real time. So when it’s hard to say what you need, that difficulty isn’t an obstacle to the work. It often is the work.

A good therapist is paying attention to that: what makes speaking up feel risky, what has to be in place before it feels possible, and what gets in the way. The aim isn’t to get therapy right. It’s to build a space safe enough that you can find out what stops you being honest, here and everywhere else.

At Altum Health, we believe the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful change. You just need a space where you can be yourself.

When most people picture someone with an eating disorder, they often imagine a person who is very underweight. The reality is much more complex than that.

Dr Amy Harrison, Clinical Lead and Highly Specialist Psychologist at Altum Health, shares why eating disorders affect people of all weights, and why looking beyond the scales is so important.

Waiting for exam results can be every bit as stressful as the exams themselves. The uncertainty, the endless "what ifs", and the feeling that your future is sitting inside an envelope can be difficult for both young people and the people who care about them.

The good news is that there are practical things you can do to make the wait feel more manageable.

If you'd like to explore the topic in more depth, including advice for both young people and parents, head to our blog:

For a while, it felt as though we were moving away from the idea that there was only one body worth celebrating. This summer, though, Dr Courtney Raspin believes we're seeing a shift back towards the idea that thinner is always better.

In her latest blog, she explores how the growing visibility of GLP-1 medications is changing the conversation around body image. While these medications can be life changing for the right people, they're medical treatments, not shortcuts to a 'summer body'.

The blog looks at why the thin ideal is making a comeback, why that matters, and why strong and healthy comes in many sizes.
