How to treat sciatic pain?

The pain travelling down the buttocks or legs typically comes from pressure or irritation of the sciatic nerve and the pain can take over someone’s life. What we need to do is to take pressure off the nerve! A common cause of sciatica is a bulging or herniated disc in the lower back where the wall of the disc in our spine pushes outwards and presses on to the nerve. It is quite a complex process but compression of the disc and stiffness in the spinal segment can create the environment for a disc to bulge or herniate.

To address the problem we need to decompress the affected disc and ease the stiffness in the spinal segment, to improve mobility and ultimately function.

Here at the clinic, we use manual therapy and exercise to achieve this, but where a problem is not responding to hand on treatment we use IDD Therapy spinal decompression.

IDD is a mechanical treatment which applies computer-controlled pulling forces at precisely-measured angles to decompress and mobilise TARGETED spinal segments. As part of a programme of care, we can help people with the most stubborn sciatica, easing their pain and enabling them to get their life back.

Located in a lovely central Harpenden building next to train station with parking next to the town.
We’re looking for a recent graduate with a hunger to learn and develop with our very experienced clinical team. You should be competent in spinal manipulations.
The clinic are specialists back care and you will learn skills in spinal decompression - IDD therapy, rehabilitation as well as gait analysis as orthotic prescription.

Fantastic part-time position for a sports therapist to combine sports massage, rehabilitation and IDD technician skills in a Osteopathic/Physiotherapy clinic. The successful candidate will learn and develop skills in IDD (Spinal decompression) therapy, the leading non invasive spinal care treatment in the UK as well as utilise sports massage and rehabilitation skills.

Responsible for carrying out IDD therapy sessions within a team (training will be given). Delivering soft tissue massage / mobilisation work and rehabilitation.

Requirements:
You will have a Level 4 or 5 sports massage qualification or have a Sports Science degree.
• Experience: Minimum 2 years
• Hours: Minimum commitment of 8 hours per week
• All practitioners require their own indemnity insurance policy

Ideally to live locally (Harpenden, Hertfordshire)
