Grief can make self-care feel impossible.
On some days, getting out of bed, eating a meal, or answering a message can take all the energy you have. Self-care during grief isn’t about spa days or being positive. It’s about meeting yourself with compassion, one small step at a time.
Look for pockets of joy—those gentle moments that remind you life can still hold comfort, even alongside loss.
🌿 A cup of tea in the garden.
☀️ The warmth of the sun on your face.
🎵 A favourite song.
🐾 A walk with your dog.
💙 A genuine laugh with someone who understands
Or for me, a coffee and a catch up with a good friend.
These moments don’t mean you’ve forgotten the person you’ve lost. They don’t diminish your love or your grief.
They simply remind your nervous system that it’s okay to rest, to breathe, and to experience moments of peace.
Grief and joy are not opposites. They can exist side by side.
If you’re struggling to find those moments, you don’t have to navigate your grief alone. Counselling can provide a safe, compassionate space to process your loss and help you reconnect with hope at your own pace.
