The wedding season just never fails to bring me so much joy. I honestly can’t quite believe this is a job I’m paid for! I’m still dreamily reminiscing about this spectacular venue Harewood Forest Weddings and the couple’s most gorgeous flower granny you ever did see. Not only did she do the most wonderful job of scattering rose petals up the aisle, she’d even jazzed up her zimmer frame with flowers and garlands. I wasn’t allowed to take her home with me but I really, really wanted to! This gorgeous couple knew each other a little before the Covid lockdown but fell in love over games of call of duty when we were all stuck at home, looking up best alternatives to loo roll. And when you think a day is already pretty perfect, along come two little boys dressed in kilts just to melt your heart event further. Such a brilliant day 😍

How do you capture such a multifaceted man who was a devoted dad, an artist, reggae DJ, music obsessive, and a completely self-taught master of building, carpentry, electrics and pretty much anything else he turned his hands to?

A man who went magic mushroom foraging with his children in Richmond Park, turned everyday life into an adventure, and somehow amassed a Twitter following of 80,000 through his deep dives into the conspiracy theories and subjects that fascinated him.

M was stubborn, mischievous, fiercely independent, hugely intelligent, wickedly funny and, beneath it all, incredibly kind and loving.

Bringing all those layers together was such a privilege. His funeral was as colourful, unconventional and full of life as the man himself — and I hope we gave him the send-off he would have approved of.

And then, months after the funeral, this review arrived from one of M’s American friends, whose words I had shared during the ceremony. It was such a wonderful reminder of just how far M’s friendships reached, and how much he meant to people who never even met him in person.

It was wonderful, as always, to work alongside Poetic Endings, who suggested the wonderfully unique in Peckham as the setting.

And perhaps the greatest compliment of all was hearing that M’s daughter, A, is now considering becoming a celebrant herself as a result of experiencing her dad’s ceremony.

N was just 48 when she died following an incredibly short and devastating illness. She was someone who seemed to bring sunshine, laughter and kindness wherever she went. In fact, one tribute from a friend went on to say, ‘N didn’t just bring the sunshine - she was the sun!’

Her family wanted her farewell to feel like N: warm, personal, uplifting and full of life. And I think we managed that together.

There were beautiful words from her father-in-law, D, who wrote and read an incredibly personal open letter to N, a beautiful poem from her daughter W, photographs, music, stories, tears and plenty of laughter.

And then there was N’s netball family, who all turned up wearing their team kit in her honour. What a wonderful and incredibly fitting way to show just how much she meant to them.

After the ceremony, N’s husband, M posted this wonderful review which I’m so grateful for.

Thank you, M. It was an absolute privilege to get to know you and your family and to help give N the farewell she deserved.

A beautiful woman, an enormous loss, and a ceremony full of love, laughter and memories.

Some funerals stay with you. This one will stay with me forever.

As a mum myself, the thought of outliving one of my children is too painful to contemplate. Losing a child is every parent’s worst nightmare, and when that loss is sudden and unexpected, there is another layer of shock and heartbreak that is incredibly difficult to put into words.

But from the very beginning, R.’s family were determined that her farewell would be focused on her life not her death.

They wanted to celebrate every one of her 15 years, to remember what made her so special, and to surround her final farewell with the love, laughter and memories she had given to so many.
And that’s exactly what we did.

The ceremony took place at a beautiful wedding venue surrounded by woodland. R.’s coffin was designed in a Stranger Things theme because she loved the series so much. Her friends shared beautiful words, while everyone was invited to leave a personal message on a gold heart-shaped sticker to place onto her coffin. By the end, it was peppered with all these little notes of love.

There were also beautiful heart-shaped crystals for everyone to take away—a little something to hold in their palm whenever they needed to feel close to her.

It was heartbreaking, joyful, funny, deeply personal and completely unique—just like the girl we were there to celebrate.

And at the end, we gave R. the send-off she deserved: a huge, wonderfully noisy, completely raucous round of applause.

Her mum later wrote:
“…a beautiful and unique ceremony fit for a beautiful and unique girl.”
I couldn’t have put it better myself.

R. was here. She was loved. And her light will continue in everyone lucky enough to have known her. It was a real@pleasure working alongside who cared for R and her family so beautifully

This family blew me away.
Despite losing his wife and soulmate far too young, leaving him to raise their two beautiful teenage daughters without her, D and his girls were determined to celebrate the extraordinary woman B was.
B was one of those people who brought light into your life without even realising she was doing it. Every piece of music had a story. Every person who spoke shared that same profound gratitude for simply having known and loved her.
It was one of those ceremonies where you leave feeling heartbroken for the family, but also incredibly lucky to have been allowed into their world for a little while.
And then this review arrived from D.
Another wonderful joint effort with the brilliant team Poetic Endings

Every ceremony I write, whether it’s a wedding, funeral, naming ceremony or vow renewal - starts with a first draft that I send to my clients before the day itself.

I still get butterflies every single time I press ‘send’. There’s always that little voice asking, “Have I really captured their story?” I hope I never lose that feeling because every ceremony deserves the same care, thought and attention.

This ceremony was for a much-loved journalist. His wife, also a journalist, made it clear she didn’t want anything over-sentimentalised. She wanted honesty, authenticity and a true reflection of the man she loved.

Receiving this review afterwards meant more than I can say. ❤️

Today marks the end of an incredible chapter.

After 21 years at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust (25 if you count the three years I trained there), today is my last day in the NHS.

It’s been the greatest privilege to work alongside some of the most talented, compassionate healthcare professionals. For the past 15 years I’ve had the honour of caring for people at the end of life, and for the last nine years as Matron for our palliative care team. Those experiences, and the people I’ve met, have shaped me into the person I am today, and I will be forever grateful.

Four years ago, everything changed.

When my mum died suddenly, we chose a celebrant-led funeral. Despite it being one of the hardest days of our lives, I look back on it with nothing but comfort, gratitude and even joy. Our celebrant Beauhemia Celebrant somehow transformed unimaginable grief into a celebration full of stories, tears and laughter. It was then I knew I wanted to give that same gift to other families.

Two years ago I began my celebrancy training, and I found something that filled my heart in exactly the same way nursing always had.

Then came my first wedding—completely by accident after a friend recommended me. I thought I’d only ever conduct funerals, but I fell in love with weddings too. The joy, the emotion, the privilege of telling a couple’s story and standing beside them on one of the happiest days of their lives was simply magical. Add to that the honour of welcoming new little humans through baby naming ceremonies, and I realised I’d found my calling: celebrating life’s biggest moments—from first chapters to final farewells.

So tomorrow, I take the biggest and bravest step of my career.

I’m leaving the NHS to become a full-time celebrant.

I’ll always be a nurse at heart, because caring for people will always be at the centre of who I am. It will just look a little different now.

If you’re looking for a celebrant for a wedding, baby naming ceremony or funeral—or know someone who is—I would be truly honoured to be part of your story.

Here’s to celebrating every chapter of life… including this new one. ❤️

First wedding of the year and I think I’ve found my fave venue ever! is something unlike anything else I’ve seen. It’s only about 3 miles from Andover but you’d never know it. The woods went on forever…..

I was in two minds as to whether to post this. I’ve always felt a bit weird about self promotion but I am so unbelievably grateful that someone has gone out of their way to nominate me for this award that I never knew existed until a few days ago. I don’t think I’d ever feel comfortable asking anyone to nominate me so the fact it’s popped up all by itself makes it even more special. ❤️ I didn’t think my cup could be more full after seeing Alanis Morrissette (my teen queen) this weekend but it most certainly is now. BEST WEEK EVER!
