A busy August has meant we’re a little late sharing this one… but we’ve definitely still been getting those steps in! 🚶‍♀️💚

After a very busy few weeks of classes, workshops and events, we’re taking a little break - but the walking continues!

Throughout August, the Mini First Aid network is taking on a 150-mile walking challenge in support of the incredible Children’s Burns Trust, celebrating their 25th anniversary. 💚

Together, franchisees and trainers across the UK are walking the equivalent distance from Mini First Aid HQ to Children’s Burns Trust HQ - raising vital funds and awareness along the way.

At Mini First Aid, burns prevention and knowing the correct first aid for a burn is something we teach every week. We know just how quickly accidents can happen and how important those first few minutes can be.

So while some of us might technically be “on a break”… we are still clocking up those miles! 👣

We’ll be sharing some of our progress over the rest of August, along with burns prevention and first aid advice.

If you’d like to support us, every donation big or small goes directly to Children’s Burns Trust. You can donate using the QR code above or the link below in the comments. 💚

Here’s to 150 miles, lots more steps and celebrating 25 incredible years of Children’s Burns Trust.

With another warm weekend forecast, many London families will be heading to the coast for a much-needed day out of the city. Before you head to the beach, take a moment to refresh yourself on these important water safety tips.

Every year, we hear stories of people losing their lives while swimming in the seas around the UK.

Some of these tragic deaths are attributed to rip tides or rip currents, as they are also known. Rip tides are strong currents of water that flow from the shore out to sea. They are powerful and quick enough to drag a person out to deeper water.

Rip currents can be challenging to spot. You can sometimes spot frothy or swirling water forming a channel from overhead, but this is more difficult to see from the shoreline.

What to do if you find yourself caught in a rip tide:

⚠️ Call loudly for help.⚠️ If you have something buoyant to hold on to like an inflatable or a surfboard, keep tight hold of it.
⚠️ DO NOT swim against the current towards the shore. This is often people’s instinct, but typically people are not strong enough to swim against a rip current.
⚠️ Swim parallel to the shoreline so that you swim out of the rip current and not against it.
⚠️ Once the rip current is no longer pulling you, swim towards the shore. Switch to swimming parallel again if you begin to feel a pull again.
⚠️ If or when you can stand, wade rather than try to swim to anchor your body.

Water safety at the beach tips:

⚠️ Choose a beach that is patrolled and monitored by lifeguards. They will look out for rip tides and be your first responders if anything happens.
⚠️ Always swim between the red and yellow flags, as this area has been designated safe to swim.
⚠️ If you see a wind sock that shows a strong wind blowing in the direction of the sea, do not take inflatables into the sea as they could be dragged out to deeper water.
⚠️ If you see anyone else in trouble, alert the lifeguards or call 999 and ask for the coastguard.

From September 2026, schools across England will be expected to meet new statutory allergy guidance introduced through Benedict’s Law.

With around one in 13 children now living with a food allergy, the new guidance aims to ensure every school has consistent procedures in place to reduce the risk of allergic reactions and respond quickly and confidently if an emergency occurs.
Now is the time to review your school’s allergy procedures and prepare your staff. Contact us to enquire about our new Allergy & Anaphylaxis course for schools!

⚠️ Save and share this post!

With temperatures soaring across London this week, it’s important to know the difference between heat exhaustion and heatstroke, and what to do if someone becomes unwell.

☀️ Stay hydrated
☀️ Keep out of the sun during the hottest parts of the day
☀️ Wear loose, light-coloured clothing
☀️ Take regular breaks and avoid overexertion in the heat

Babies, young children, older adults, and those with underlying health conditions can be particularly vulnerable in hot weather, so do check in on family, friends, and neighbours.

Take care and stay safe this week 💚⛑️
