Can a single piece of technology transform a patient's experience?

Cancer patients at St Bartholomew's Hospital are now getting important blood test results in as little as 10 to 15 minutes, thanks to a new machine installed in our Cancer Assessment Unit.

Previously, some patients could wait four to six hours for results while samples were sent to another hospital laboratory. Now, doctors and nurses can assess patients much more quickly, helping them start treatment sooner and reducing the number of people who need to be sent to A&E.

For patients already going through cancer treatment, getting answers faster can make a huge difference. It's a simple change that's helping us care for more people, while providing specialist support in the right setting.

One year of Dilly's Den⭐

Dilly's Den was built in memory of Dillan Ramsey-Aksehi, who spent much of his life undergoing treatment for leukaemia at The Royal London Hospital and Great Ormond Street Hospital.

One year on from opening, the rooftop space continues to bring joy to children and families spending long periods in hospital.

This week, patients enjoyed a special celebration featuring arts and crafts, music, a photobooth and some dinosaur-themed fun 🦖🎉

Thank you to Amy Ramsey, Dilly's mum, whose incredible fundraising and determination created a lasting legacy that continues to make a real difference to children and families every day💙

GCSE results don't define your future 💙

After struggling academically and later discovering she had dyslexia, dyscalculia and ADHD, Chloe wasn't sure where life would take her.

💬 "Like many students opening their results, I know what it's like to feel uncertain about the future. I know what it's like when things don't go to plan." – Chloe

Today, she's a qualified staff nurse with us. But what Chloe is most proud of isn't her job title, it's "persevering when things felt impossible."

Her story is a reminder that setbacks don't determine where you'll end up.

🚫Abuse is never part of the job.
 
From nurses and doctors to reception and security teams, nobody should face violence, threats or abuse at work.
 
Last year, we issued 28 red cards to individuals who repeatedly abused our staff. A red card can result in someone being excluded from our hospitals, except in life-threatening circumstances.
 
We stand with our staff and will continue to support them in seeking justice.

🎓 Congratulations to everyone who received their results today!

Whether you're celebrating, exploring your options or planning your next step, today is all about new opportunities.

We're proud to be supporting those next steps through Healthcare Horizons, helping more than 1,000 young people explore NHS careers, gain valuable experience and build the confidence to pursue a future in healthcare.

With support from Bank of America and Barts Charity, the next phase of the programme will create even more opportunities for local young people to discover where a career in the NHS could take them.

Here's the moment they meet for the first time🥹

When Murray suffered a cardiac arrest near To***co Dock, the person who helped save his life was on her way home from a hospital appointment.

Shuo Cui, an off-duty police officer and who is currently undergoing cancer treatment at St Bartholomew's Hospital, immediately stepped in to perform CPR and help use a defibrillator until emergency crews arrived.

Following specialist treatment at St Bartholomew's, Murray has made a remarkable recovery and has now been reunited with Shuo.

Even in the middle of her own cancer journey, Shuo used her strength to save Murray's life💙

Barts Health's Dr Manish Saxena has described a new twice-yearly injection being trialled to help manage high blood pressure as a "game changer" if successful.

Barts Health NHS Trust is the first site in Europe to recruit into the Zenith Phase 3 trial, testing zilebesiran, a treatment to potentially help the 1 in 3 adults in the UK affected by high blood pressure and lower their risk of heart attacks and strokes.
