Barts Health's Dr Manish Saxena has described a new twice-yearly injection being trialled to help manage high blood pressure as a "game changer" if successful.

Barts Health NHS Trust is the first site in Europe to recruit into the Zenith Phase 3 trial, testing zilebesiran, a treatment to potentially help the 1 in 3 adults in the UK affected by high blood pressure and lower their risk of heart attacks and strokes.

The trial aims to recruit more than 11,000 people worldwide. Read more through the link in the comments 👇

🚨1 in 7 of our staff experienced violence and abuse.

Behind that statistic are real people.

In these powerful stories, colleagues from Newham Hospital share the violence and abuse they have experienced or witnessed while caring for patients and visitors.

Their experiences reflect concerns highlighted in ITV London's recent report on the rising levels of violence and abuse faced by NHS staff.

We understand that coming to hospital can be stressful and emotional, but violence, threats, harassment and abuse towards our staff are never acceptable.

Our colleagues come to work to care for others and deserve to do so without fear.

Please treat our staff with respect💙

🎉The UK's first dedicated dialysis space designed specifically for young people.

Today we officially opened the new Independent Therapies Centre at Mile End Hospital, a pioneering facility designed to give dialysis patients greater independence, flexibility and control over their treatment.

Funded by £3.8 million from Barts Charity, the centre features home haemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis training facilities, a dedicated self-care area, and a dedicated space for young people aged 16–25.

Co-created with patients, the centre has been designed to feel less like a hospital ward and more like a welcoming community space, helping patients build confidence, develop skills and connect with others.

A huge thank you to everyone involved in bringing this to life and helping transform the experience of dialysis care for patients across east London💙

What if older cancer patients could see a whole team of specialists in a single visit?

As our population ages, more people are facing cancer alongside frailty and other complex health conditions. That's why we're proud to highlight the Older Adult Cancer Service (OACS) at St Bartholomew's Hospital.

Bringing together a range of healthcare professionals, including geriatricians, physiotherapists, dietitians and pharmacists, OACS provides personalised, joined-up care tailored to each patient's needs. The service helps reduce the burden of multiple appointments while supporting patients to stay as well, active and independent as possible throughout their cancer treatment.

With support from Barts Charity, this innovative approach is already making a real difference for patients like Trevor Inglis, who described it as a "Rolls-Royce service", while helping to share learning and best practice across the NHS.

Whipps Cross delivers legends⚽😉

As England heads into the next round of the World Cup, we’re feeling a little bit proud that two England icons, Harry Kane and David Beckham started their journey at Whipps Cross Hospital.

And to every baby born at Whipps Cross today… no pressure💙

Whether we’re speaking with colleagues, patients or visitors, taking the time to learn and use someone’s name correctly is a simple act of respect, inclusion and kindness.

What a difference a year can make💙

This week, we celebrated the latest graduates of the Project SEARCH supported internship programme at Newham Hospital🎓

The programme gives young adults with learning disabilities and autism the chance to experience the world of work, build confidence and develop new skills.

Karolina, one of our graduates, reflected: "One of my favourite quotes that my teacher said was, 'Imagine we lived in a world where everyone was the same', and at that moment I realised it's ok to be different."

Through placements across Newham Hospital, this year's interns explored future career opportunities while gaining valuable workplace experience.

👏 Join us in congratulating our incredible graduates in the comments.
