Somewhere today, a young person has opened their results , and behind that moment is a story that started long before this morning. The question they finally understood. The word they worked to find. The confidence to ask for help when they needed it.

That's their achievement. They did the studying, faced the challenges, and put in the work — with family, teachers, support staff and other people cheering them on along the way.

Sometimes, an SLT is fortunate enough to have played one small part in that much bigger journey. Days like today are a lovely reminder of just how far someone has come.

Congratulations to every young person who celebrated today, including those whose journey held challenges that will never appear beside their grades. And if today's results weren't what you hoped for, that doesn't take away from everything you've already achieved to get here.

Tag someone who worked hard behind the scenes to help a young person get here today. 💙

Some of the young people opening their results today will be taking their first step towards becoming Speech and Language Therapists.

If you are starting an SLT degree this September, congratulations, and a very warm welcome to a fantastic profession.

You are beginning a career that can take you into hospitals, schools, clinics, homes, communities and many other settings. You may support someone to express their first message, regain communication after illness, advocate for what they need, eat and drink safely or participate more fully in everyday life.

There is so much ahead for you to discover, and we are delighted that you are joining us.

If today has changed your plans, be gentle with yourself. There is more than one route towards a fulfilling career, and your results do not measure your worth or your potential.

To the next generation of Speech and Language Therapists; Welcome!

As the day draws to a close, today's solar eclipse is a lovely reminder to pause, look up and appreciate something extraordinary. 🌒

Independent practice can be busy, and it is easy to move form one task to the next without taking a moment for yourself.

If you get the chance this evening, step outside, enjoy the eclipse (safely, using appropriate viewing glasses)and take a few minutes to enjoy the rare event happening above us.

We hope you're finding time over the summer to rest, recharge and enjoy moments like these.

Share your eclipse photos in the comments, if you manage to catch it (I have been advised to use a pair of the eclipse glasses over my camera lens)

One minute you're writing a tribunal report. The next you're chasing an invoice.
Then you're ordering resources, answering emails, updating your CPD record and squeezing in a quick lunch before your afternoon visits. Sound familiar? 😊

It's easy to lose track of how many different roles you're carrying at once — and easier still to assume everyone else has it more sorted than you do.
They don't. And having someone who gets that, without needing it explained, makes a bigger difference than people admit.

That's a big part of what ASLTIP is for; bringing independent speech and language therapists together so no one has to navigate the journey alone.

Thinking about expert witness work but not sure where to start?

This session is designed to give you a practical introduction to the role and answer many of the questions therapists commonly have. We'll explore what expert witness work involves, the responsibilities that come with the role and some of the common challenges you may encounter along the way.

There'll also be plenty of time for questions, making this a great opportunity to learn directly from Nicholas Deal, barrister and Bond Solon trainer.

We'd love to see you there.

When you're busy with clients, paperwork and everything else that comes with running an independent practice, it's easy to forget that someone still needs to be having the wider conversations.

Those conversations matter. They help make sure independent therapists are represented, that opportunities aren't missed, and that the profession keeps a voice in the rooms that decide its future.

None of that happens because of one person. It happens because of ASLTIP's members. And your voice plays a part in making it possible.

Whether you've been a member for years or you're simply curious about independent practice, we'd love you to join the conversation, and if you want to find out more about ASLTIP, we're always happy to talk.

When you first became independent, what were you hoping for?

Maybe more flexibility. Maybe the freedom to work differently. Maybe just a way of working that felt more like you.

Whatever the reason, one thing usually becomes clear pretty fast: independence doesn't mean you stop needing other people. Sometimes it's a coffee and a moan. Sometimes it's a message asking, "has anyone dealt with this before?" Sometimes it's just someone saying, "I thought exactly the same."

That's a big part of what ASLTIP is for.
💬 What's been the most useful "has anyone else..." moment since you went independent? Tell us below.
