🔐 Data Protection: A Starting Point for Speech and Language Therapists

Not sure where to start with data protection in your SLT practice? This short session is designed to help you get started with confidence.

We’ll explore:
💬 What personal data means in everyday SLT practice
👥 Key considerations when handling information about clients, families and staff
✅ The main areas to think about when working towards good data protection practice

This isn’t a session about detailed rules or answering every possible data protection question. Instead, it’s a high-level introduction to help you understand the basics, ask the right questions and know where to focus next.

💡 The good news? Data protection doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Once you understand the fundamentals, it becomes much easier to approach it in a practical and proportionate way.

By the end of the session, you’ll be able to:
✔️ Understand what counts as personal data in SLT work
✔️ Recognise the key areas to consider for compliance
✔️ Feel more confident that data protection is manageable

We’re inviting ASLTIP members to contribute to this year’s theme: Decisions in Practice. Share a session that changed your practice, join a clinical dilemmas panel or take part in a conversation about what you wish you’d known earlier.

You don’t need to be an experienced speaker - we’re interested in your experience, your thinking and what other members could learn from you.

Selected speakers receive a complimentary conference ticket and travel expenses. Expressions of interest close on 7th October.

Therapy Talks 2027 is on its way
Members have been asking us to take Therapy Talks out of London, so this year we are.

We’ve already secured our keynote speaker, Dr Lynda Shaw, and we’re well on the way to building a cohesive programme around this year’s theme of clinical judgement.

The day will explore how experience shapes what we notice, the assumptions we make and the decisions we take in practice, with plenty of space for reflection, discussion and different perspectives.
