This is a topic I do not see discussed nearly enough, and in my view, that needs to change.
If you are taking an antidepressant and have noticed changes in your s*x life โ reduced desire, difficulty with arousal or or**sm, or simply that things are not what they were โ you are far from alone. Studies suggest that between 58% and 73% of people on SSRIs experience some form of s*xual dysfunction. That is not a rare side effect. It is the majority experience.
And yet it rarely gets talked about. Patients do not always raise it. Clinicians do not always ask. The result is that people either silently tolerate something that is affecting their relationships and quality of life, or they stop their medication altogether without support โ which carries its own risks.
The good news is that there are clear, practical options. Adjusting the dose, switching to a different medication, or adding a targeted treatment can all make a significant difference, without compromising the mental health benefits you rely on.
I have written about this in detail on the DGA Health blog, and there is also a full video on my YouTube channel, The Health Perspective. If this is something you or someone you know has been quietly navigating, I hope it is a useful read.
