Combat sports competition classes are usually high intensity drills, takedowns, positional sparring, and a few more hard sparring rounds than your average class.

Therefore it’s important to feed yourself to match the training demand. Carbs are the answer.

The harder and longer the training the more carbs you need to fuel and perform at your best.

Find foods that suit you and digest well.

I like to aim for about 1g of carbs per kg of bodyweight pre-training, so if you weigh 75kg = 75g of carbs. But also post training to refuel.

Most of your daily carbs should be before and after training.

Caffeine is also your friend to give you that boost of energy for when you need it.

And always make sure you drink some fluids, especially before morning training.

As i reflect on my takeaways from , there’s a few things that stand out.

First, what an awesome conference. Will certainly be back next year. I recommend it if you’ve been on the fence.

Building your network & relationships - SO important. Every presentation can be linked backed to that. From the network of professionals around you, to the relationships you build with clients/members of staff/other practitioners.

It’s why everyone who presented was there, their network.

Secondly, there’s enough jobs and or opportunities for all of us out there if we work hard and stay passionate.

I didn’t take the usual route to becoming a nutritionist but that doesn’t make me any less valuable.

And you don’t have to stay in your original industry if other opportunities and ideas present themselves, take the risk, like Dr Warren Bradley did.

So I will try not to worry about it all too much.

Thanks to Sean Aspinall and Alex Preece | Advisor, Elite Sport on their words of wisdom.

I have come away motivated and ready to tackle this last part of the year (and next)🫡

Another evening presenting for Performance Herts to the University of Hertfordshire’s performance sports teams.

I have learnt to make the presentations more interactive to drive engagement from the athletes in the room.

It also allows them to create resources during, that they can take away and help with their own nutrition.

If you are an institution, club or coach that wants me to present on Performance Nutrition for your athletes, drop me a DM and let’s make it happen.

Guilty as charged 😅

I get mine from but I love making myself a good chicken/tuna sandwich at home, so easy and means you can add as much as you want.

Perfect 2 hours before a training session or right after a hard training session to get recovery going.

Where should I go get my next sandwich from? Drop it in the comments below 👇🏽
