Today we held a dedication service to Mr Frederick Weir. British born he moved to America as a boy and joined the navy to fight against slavery in the civil war. It was so interesting to learn about his life, bravery and dedication today. And always an honour to have him resting with us. In his old age he moved back to England and passed away in Poplar. What an amazing life he lead. We were even lucky enough to have his great niece join us. If you would like to know more about Frederick pop into the office and I would happily tell you his story ❤️

World Mental Health Day | 10th October

You never truly know what someone is carrying behind their smile. Some people fight battles in silence, some are trying to find their way through difficult times, and others are simply doing their best to get through another day.

Please remember that it's okay not to be okay. You don't have to be strong all the time, you don't have to have all the answers, and you don't have to face everything alone.

Be kind to one another. Check on your friends, listen without judgement, and remember that sometimes the people who make everyone else smile are the ones who need a little kindness themselves.

Mental health matters. Your feelings matter. And you matter. ❤️

A little touch of colour flying proudly over our grounds. 🇬🇧
Our new flag is up, and we think it looks lovely! It's the little details that help make East London Cemetery such a special place.
Established in 1872, we're proud to continue caring for our grounds and the families who visit them.
What do you think? ❤️

There’s something incredibly calming about taking a quiet walk through the grounds. As you look around, you’re reminded just how vast our cemetery is, and of the thousands of people who have found their final resting place here over the years. Every path, tree and memorial holds a story, and together they form a very special part of our community. ❤️

When considering a memorial, it’s important to have time to consider the options and choose something that feels meaningful for you and your family.

This is why we’re letting everyone know now that and a select number of memorial products will change in price from 2 November 2026, so ordering before then means you can still access our current prices.

If you’re thinking about arranging a memorial for a loved one we’re here to help – there’s no need to navigate the options alone.

Contact us or visit us in the office to talk things through 🤍

The team from East London Cemetery will be joining Lisa again for a fundraiser for a very good cause. Every penny donated will be used to help families who have lost their babies to get a beautiful memorial stone to mark their grave. Lisa knows the pain of losing a child, her son Joe is resting here with us, but Lisa decided to use this pain to help other families and we stand by her. Please donate if you can, or share this post so we can help more families who have lost their little ones ❤️

On 24th October 2026, myself and my friends will be taking … Joanne Donovan needs your support for Climbing the O2 in Memory of Joe Donovan for the baby graves

This is the grave of Dr Andrea Angel (1877–1917) chief chemist at the Silvertown TNT works who gave his life during the devastating Silvertown Explosion on 19 January 1917. When the fire broke out, Andrea helped workers escape to safety before returning towards the danger. He was posthumously awarded the Edward Medal for his bravery. Andrea is buried here at East London Cemetery, where his story and sacrifice remain part of the history of our local community.
Rest in peace Andrea, thank you for your bravery ❤️
