It felt like a question worth exploring properly.

Big colas look impressive. Uniform medicine matters more.

That’s why we de-leaf. By opening up the canopy, we allow more light to reach lower flower sites and improve airflow, reducing the small humid microclimates where mould can develop.

We also keep our lights relatively high. The closer a light is to the canopy, the greater the difference in intensity between the top and lower parts of the plant. More height helps create a more even light distribution and, in turn, more consistent flower.

We measure that light in micromoles, not lumens. Lumens tell us how bright light looks to the human eye. As Brady would say "Lumens are for humans!". Plants care about photosynthetically useful photons, measured as PPFD in µmol·m⁻²·s⁻¹.

For us, the goal isn’t the biggest cola.

It’s consistency.

Where does GACP end and GMP begin?

One of the less understood parts of medical cannabis production is the point at which an agricultural crop becomes part of a pharmaceutical manufacturing process. A useful word to know is comminution; the reduction of plant material in size by cutting, milling or otherwise breaking it down. Under the European framework, cultivation and certain primary processing activities can fall under Good Agricultural Collection Practice (GACP). For plants used as active substances, the EMA states that comminution should be carried out in accordance with EU GMP II.

The MHRA makes a similar distinction for cannabis. It says that if a company simply grows, harvests and supplies cannabis as an unprocessed crop, GMP does not apply and GACP is the relevant standard. Once further processing takes place, including drying and trimming, the MHRA needs to understand what is happening, where and what happens to the material next.

That nuance matters, because the regulatory framework follows the product and its place in the manufacturing chain, not simply the activity in isolation. The same cannabis flower could, depending on what happens next, be a starting material, an API or the finished medicine.
