4 Common Melasma Mistakes to Avoid

Treating melasma takes more than just the right products—it also requires consistency and the right long-term approach.

✗ Stopping treatment too soon
Melasma doesn't clear overnight. Consistent treatment is key to achieving and maintaining results.

✗ Skipping maintenance treatment
Even after melasma improves, ongoing maintenance is often needed to help prevent it from returning.

✗ Assuming all pigmentation is melasma
Not every dark patch is melasma. Pigmentation can also be caused by sun damage or post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, which may require different treatments.

✗ Not wearing sunscreen every day
Daily broad-spectrum SPF is essential. Rain or shine, summer or winter, sunscreen helps protect your skin and reduce the risk of melasma recurring.

If you're struggling with pigmentation, an accurate diagnosis is the first step to finding the most effective treatment.

Eczema & Melasma: Two Skin Conditions We're Passionate About

Eczema and melasma are common skin conditions, but both require the right diagnosis and personalised treatment to achieve the best results.

Eczema is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can cause dry, itchy, and irritated skin. With the right skincare routine, practical advice, and prescription treatments when needed, it can be managed effectively.

Melasma is a form of hyperpigmentation that commonly appears as patches of darker skin, often triggered by hormones, pregnancy, or sun exposure. While it can be persistent, it is treatable with the right combination of skincare, sun protection, and targeted treatments.

At Dermasurge, we believe every patient deserves a personalised treatment plan to help them achieve healthier, more confident skin.

Planning a sunny holiday? Here's what to know before booking your skin treatments. ☀️

If you're travelling somewhere warm and sunny, it's best to avoid treatments that require downtime, redness, or peeling just before you go.

Treatments to postpone include:
• CO2 laser and other ablative fractional lasers
• Deep chemical peels

These treatments require time for your skin to heal and should be followed by careful sun avoidance.

Good pre-holiday options include:
✔️ Microneedling (around a week before travel)
✔️ Skin boosters, such as Profhilo
✔️ Anti-wrinkle injections
✔️ HIFU treatments

These treatments involve little to no downtime and are generally suitable before a holiday.

Not sure which treatment is right for your schedule? Book a consultation and we'll help you plan your treatments safely.

3 Tips to Help Manage Back Acne👇

Back acne can be frustrating, but a few simple changes can make a difference.

✔️ Avoid oily products – Oils can clog pores and make breakouts worse, so avoid applying them to acne-prone skin.

✔️ Apply treatment properly – If you've been prescribed a topical treatment, a back applicator can help you reach every area more effectively.

✔️ Choose breathable clothing – Tight-fitting clothes, especially when you're sweating, can trap heat and clog pores, leading to more inflammation.

If back acne is persistent or leaving scars, professional treatment can help. Book a consultation to discuss the best options for your skin.

Does filler migrate?

This is one of the most common questions we hear.

When hyaluronic acid filler is injected using the correct technique, in the right layer of the skin, and with the appropriate product for the treatment area, it should not migrate.

Filler is carefully placed to blend naturally with your tissues or provide targeted support and lift where needed. If migration does occur, it may be related to factors such as incorrect placement, poor injection technique, or an unsuitable product.

Choosing an experienced medical professional is key to achieving safe, natural-looking results.

HA Fillers vs Radiesse — what’s the difference?

HA (Hyaluronic Acid) fillers are primarily volumising fillers that add immediate structure and hydration to the skin.

They are commonly used in areas such as the cheeks, temples, lips, and marionette lines to restore lost volume and enhance facial contours.

Radiesse works differently. It is made of calcium hydroxyapatite and not only provides volume, but also stimulates your skin’s natural collagen production.

This helps improve skin quality over time by supporting firmer, healthier-looking skin.

Both treatments are used depending on individual skin needs and desired results

What’s the best sunscreen for children?☀️

When choosing sunscreen for children, it’s important to focus on protection that is both effective and easy to re-apply throughout the day.

Look for SPF 50 with high UVA protection, ideally a 5-star UVA rating (Boots Star Rating in the UK).

This ensures strong defence against both burning and long-term skin damage.

Practical, child-friendly formats like sticks can make reapplication easier during school, play, or outdoor activities. Water-resistant and sensitive-skin formulas are also ideal for everyday use.

Protection that fits into real life is key to keeping children’s skin safe and healthy.
