Medico – Legal Reports, for injuries involving foot function and changed Posture. Our Foot Surgery department uses advanced techniques to stabilise and reposition deformities. A thorough gait investigation is performed prior to surgery in order to establish the cause of deformities and in order to assess the effect that surgery may have on the foot. The department of Foot surgery performs corrective surgery for many different types of foot deformities. Our Gait Laboratory was one of the firsts to be created in the UK. It is used to assess how people move. Wide ranges of people are assessed, with a large diversity of problems. The department sees children with growing pains, or walking anomalies. Adolescent children often attend with heel and knee pains. Many athletes do not use their bodies efficiently due to asymmetry and have repetitive injuries. A detailed gait analysis can lead to an improvement in gait though a variety of treatments. Changes brought about by treatment resolve pains and can prevent their recurrence. Our Gait analysis equipment measures pressure under the foot. It measures symmetry and asymmetrical movements, and the time taken on each foot part. Our slow motion gait analysis allows us to examine all body parts. Each part can be examined from the side, from the front and from the rear view. Our Podiatrists are trained to provide expert care for foot deformities. They diagnosed and provide non-surgical care for many foot and limb problems, deformities and pathologies. Some people are not suitable for surgery due to poor health, or cannot have surgery because they cannot take time from work to recover from surgery. Fitter Feet Podiatrists are experts in relieving foot pains without surgery where possible.

Warts and verrucae are viral growths that deform the skin and can be found on the hands and feet. They can often be painful to walk on. They are caused by a virus called the human papilloma virus.

Cold laser treatment for Verrucas.

Cold Laser stimulates the IGG antibodies that are the body’s natural defence against verrucae. You will require 6 sessions in 2-3 weeks and then will be reviewed 8 weeks later. This gentle treatment is not painful and is recommended for children.

Chemical treatments for Verrucas.

You a can buy over the counter chemical treatments from your local chemist but Fitter feet use stronger chemicals that are applied in specialised dressings under the supervision of a Podiatrist.

Medical laser treatments for Verrucas.

Verrucae can be large, persistent or present for many years. Often other treatments have been tried and failed. Fitter feet recommend the use of the NAG Medical laser for this type of verrucae. The treatment is performed under local anaesthetic and destroys the verrucae and stimulates the immune system.
Our record to date is a patient who had her verrucae 21 years covering several square centimetres of both feet, they were very sore to walk on. She had 3 separate treatments and her verrucae fully disappeared in 4 months.

ESWT is a procedure where shock waves are passed through the skin to the injured part of the foot. They target specific damaged tissues within the abnormal tendon and/or plantar fascia.  This increases the blood flow in injured area, stimulating cell regeneration and healing, and decreasing local factors which can cause pain. This speeds up your body’s healing process. You will usually require a course of three to six treatments, one to two weeks apart.

Who will carry out the procedure?

Your ESWT will be carried out by one of our podiatrists, all of whom have undertaken special training to carry out the procedure.

Why is it important to have well moisturised, smooth skin?
Cracks in your skin create tiny breaks in the skin barrier, which normally acts as a shield against bacteria, fungi, and viruses. So rough, cracked skin is more prone to infections like athlete’s foot and verrucas.

Tips for soft, smooth skin.
Wash feet daily and dry thoroughly, especially between the toes.
Apply a small amount of moisturiser to the top and bottom of the foot.
A urea-based moisturiser is ideal, as urea helps soften hard skin, improve moisture retention, and reduces cracking, but most moisturisers will work.
Be careful about applying creams between the toes, as this can create an overly moist area where athlete’s foot can take hold.
Use a foot file on areas of thick, hard skin, but file dry skin, not wet. This prevents overfiling and gives better control.
If you are in a higher risk group, for example if you are diabetic, have poor circulation, or neuropathy (nerve damage or disease) etc, please consult your doctor or a specialist clinic like ours before attempting self-treatment.
You should also seek specialist advice if you have persistent hard skin, corns, calluses, or persistent infections, such as verrucas, nail infections, or athlete’s foot despite good foot care.
