One of the most overlooked causes of Dry Eye is happening thousands of times a day… and most people don’t realise they’re doing it incorrectly.

Incomplete blinking is a major contributor to Dry Eye disease and is becoming increasingly common with prolonged screen use.

Objective blink analysis can measure blink rate, incomplete blinks and eyelid closure, helping patients better understand their symptoms and improving treatment outcomes.

By identifying blink dysfunction, we can monitor progress and provide more targeted Dry Eye management.

If you’re experiencing dry, irritated, watery or tired eyes, book an appointment with one of our specialists for a comprehensive Dry Eye assessment and personalised treatment plan.

Did you know hormonal changes don’t just affect women?

As men age, testosterone levels naturally decline - a process often referred to as ‘male menopause’ or ‘andropause’. These hormonal changes can impact many aspects of health, including the eyes.

Lower testosterone levels may contribute to changes in tear production and meibomian gland function, increasing the risk of dry eye symptoms such as:

-Burning or stinging eyes
-Grittiness or irritation
-Blurred vision
-Watery eyes

If you’re experiencing persistent eye discomfort, it may be worth considering whether hormonal changes could be playing a role.

At the Dry Eye Centre, we take a personalised approach to understanding and treating dry eye disease.

Hot compresses are often the first recommendation for Dry Eye sufferers but most people aren’t using them effectively.

The goal of a warm compress isn’t simply to make your eyes feel warm. It’s to heat the meibomian glands along your eyelids and soften the oils they produce. These oils are essential for preventing your tears from evaporating too quickly.

When these glands become blocked or the oils become thick and sluggish, a condition known as meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD), symptoms such as dryness, irritation, burning and grittiness can develop.

Here’s the problem: a warm washcloth loses heat very quickly, often within a minute. That isn’t long enough to properly warm the glands or improve oil flow which means you’re unlikely to get the relief you’re looking for. However over heating the glands can sometimes cause more problems and can drive inflammation.

For the best results:

✔️ Use a heated eye mask that maintains a consistent temperature for at least 8–10 minutes

✔️ Opt for moist heat where possible, as it transfers warmth more effectively to the eyelids

✔️ Be consistent—daily treatment is key

✔️ Gently massage along the lash line afterwards to help express the softened oils

If you’ve been faithfully doing warm compresses and haven’t noticed an improvement, it may not be the treatment that’s failing - it may not be the correct recommendation for your type of dry eye.

If Dry Eye is affecting your comfort or quality of life, book a consultation and let’s identify the underlying cause and create a treatment plan that works for you.

Biomarkers are measurable indicators found in your tears that help us understand what’s happening on the surface of your eyes.

At the Dry Eye Centre, we use advanced tear biomarker testing to look beyond symptoms and identify underlying inflammation linked to Dry Eye disease and ocular surface conditions. This allows us to create more accurate, personalised treatment plans because no two Dry Eyes are the same.

Biomarker testing is quick, non invasive and helps us monitor how your eyes respond to treatment over time, giving you clearer answers and more targeted care. It is also an accurate way of quantifying findings, allowing us to measure inflammation levels more precisely and track improvements throughout your treatment journey.

If you’re struggling with dry, irritated, watery or uncomfortable eyes, book an appointment with our team today and discover a more precise approach to Dry Eye management - 020 7636 6080 / 07562 691243.

A clinical trial compared laughter to eye drops. The results? Identical. Here’s what that tells us about Dry Eye:

Researchers split patients into two groups:

— Artificial tears, 4x/day
— 5 minutes of laughter, 4x/day

After 8 weeks, both groups showed real improvement in Dry Eye symptoms.

This isn’t a feel-good story. It’s a clue about how Dry Eye actually works. Laughter activates the parasympathetic nervous system, which stimulates tear and oil production. Facial movement helps your meibomian glands express naturally. And reduced stress lowers the inflammation that drives so many Dry Eye cases.

Dry Eye is not just a moisture problem — it’s neural, inflammatory, and glandular.

That’s why lubricating drops alone often aren’t enough. If the root cause isn’t addressed, symptoms keep coming back.

OSI Dry Eye Masterclass & Symposium 2026

Two inspiring days spent learning more about Dry Eye alongside our team, surrounded by real conversations, bold ideas and thought-provoking discussions. From hands-on workshops to deeper dives into complex cases and new perspectives, it was a fantastic opportunity to challenge ideas and expand our understanding.

and were proud to host a workshop on refractory Dry Eye cases and delivered a panel discussion on the business of Dry Eye, while sharing insights beyond the clinic room and into the future of patient care.

Connan also stepped into the spotlight for the Dry Eye diet debate with Sight Club and it was safe to say things got competitive. Different perspectives, lively discussion and plenty of passion, which was exactly where progress happened.

Outside of the sessions, we enjoyed two wonderful meals together, with one kindly hosted by and the other a brilliant speakers’ dinner hosted by the .uk team. A huge thank you to both for your generosity and hospitality.
