I recently read that ‘... making us ill is a multi-billion-pound industry trying to get you to buy their products such as sugary drinks, cake, alcohol and gaming apps’.
This made me feel sad, then frustrated, then ultimately … amused. Because isn’t it daft to think that this oh-so-savage marketing monster is responsible for OUR health? After all, when was the last time a fast food advertisement leapt off its hoarding and held you at gun point until you ate its burger?
Yes, 60% of UK adults are overweight, but the other 40% seem to be able to navigate this dangerous world of sugary-this and trans-fat-filled that without dangerously piling on the pounds. So, now I am asking myself questions ...
Are we sometimes all to ready to think of ourselves as a victim being forced into ill health?
Are we sometimes too quick to blame THEM (our bosses, the government, the marketeers) for our stress levels and health problems?
What if we got out of bed and promised ourselves ‘today I will look after my health, today I will eat well, move well, breathe well … and laugh more?'
