World Breastfeeding Week has come to an end but I feel called to share a personal reflection that actually feels quite vulnerable for me.

When my son was a baby, breastfeeding came quite naturally to us, and for that I’ll always be grateful. But looking back, I’m struck by how little I knew.

One memory in particular about our breastfeeding journey has stayed with me.
One afternoon we went out for a family meal at a restaurant when my son started fussing. It was clear he needed feeding.

I absolutely could have breastfed him there at the table. My family were very used to me feeding discreetly and were completely comfortable with it. But I was so self-conscious about the other diners. I worried they might think it was inappropriate or distasteful, even though I could have fed him quietly without drawing any attention.
Because of this worry, I picked him up and went to the restaurant’s toilet to feed him.

Years later, when I knew better and looked back on that memory, it filled me with shame. The thought that I’d taken my baby to have his feed in a toilet was hard to sit with. We would never expect an adult to eat their meal there, so why did I feel my baby should?

Today, I look back on that younger version of myself with compassion. She was doing the best she could with the knowledge and confidence she had at the time.

But if there’s one thing I hope another breastfeeding mother takes from this, it’s this- please don’t feel you have to hide yourself away to feed your baby.

You deserve to be comfortable, and so does your baby.

Feeding your baby is never something to be ashamed of.

When your baby is hungry, neither of you needs to hide 💗

When I started offering mother and baby sound baths, I never imagined that I’d be playing for a cat who has recently had kittens!
Black and white cat (Minnie) is mum, grey cat walking by in background (Raven) is one of her kittens from an earlier litter. New kittens were prancing around elsewhere in the garden 😻

Next mother and baby soundbath (for humans! 😂) is on 15th August 1:30pm-3pm. Tickets now available on the website.

Curating this evening’s YogaBirth session ✨

Mapping out the flow and themes is one of my favourite parts of preparing for a class.

Careful thought and planning goes into every offering at The Sankofa Birth Experience. I always consider the changing physical and emotional needs that arise throughout pregnancy. One thing I really pride myself on is being able to adapt, moving away from what I originally planned when needed to respond to what the women in the room truly need that day.

Just a reminder that today’s session is the last YogaBirth class with me this term before we take a break in August.

We’ll be back to our regular weekly schedule from 3rd September.

You can still connect with me throughout August at Moon with my sound offerings:
✨ Mother & Baby Sound Bath on 15th August
✨ Sacred Sound, Storytelling & Intention (open to all) on 22nd August

As always, links to book can be found in my bio or DM me with any questions

It’s currently 30+ degrees in London 🥵
The heat can feel so much more intense when you’re pregnant. Your body is already working hard to grow your baby, so it’s no surprise if you’re feeling even hotter than everyone else!

In this video I share 5 things that can help you stay cooler and more comfortable during a heat wave, including one my favourite hack for DIY air con.

If you’re pregnant this summer, I’d love to hear what’s helping you stay cool so feel free to share your tips in the comments.

And if you know another mum-to-be who’s melting in this weather, send this her way ☀️
