At LNWH, our Neonatal Unit provides exceptional care and support to babies and their families during some of the most challenging and important moments of their lives.

The team is on a mission to further enhance the environment and equipment on the Neonatal Unit , helping to ensure the very best experience and outcomes for the babies and families we care for.

Last week, the team swapped their scrubs for aprons and picked up their whisks to host a successful cake sale in support of their upcoming fundraising challenge.

Whether your baby was cared for by our neonatal team recently or many years ago, we'd love you to join us for the Ickle Pickles Incubator Push on 26 September 2026 at Finsbury Park.

This special event is an opportunity to come together, celebrate how far our little ones have come, and help raise funds for vital equipment for premature and sick babies. Our goal is to complete 28 laps and raise £28,000, but you are welcome to join for as many or as few laps as you wish.

Ickle Pickles Children's Charity works in partnership with LNWH, with all funds raised for our Neonatal Unit dedicated to benefiting our babies, families, and staff. These funds help provide additional equipment and resources that make a real difference to patient care and the family experience.

Whether you walk, donate, cheer us on, or simply help spread the word, every contribution will support future neonatal families and help give every baby the best possible start.

Forget the heatwave, Debbie Martin in ITU brought the chill! By supplying her team and patient’s families with ice-cold drinks during the hottest days, she helped keep spirits high and temperatures low.

Thank you, Debbie, for embodying our HEART values and showing that looking after your colleagues is always in style. 💙

Project 90 starring Benjamin Zare. If that doesn’t sound like a sci fi film we don’t know what does but for research fellow Ben it provided the opportunity of a work placement abroad courtesy of the British Society of Gastroenterology (BSG) Project 90 Travelling Fellowship in Advanced Endoscopy.

Ben’s placement took him to the Academic Medical Centre in Amsterdam where he learnt more about advanced endoscopic practice in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP), other polyposis syndromes and early colorectal cancer, advanced endoscopic management, surveillance strategies, and registry-led multidisciplinary care and advanced endoscopic imaging.

Ben, who is currently working on a PhD focused on FAP and hereditary gastrointestinal cancer syndromes, said: “It was a fantastic experience, and I’m very grateful to the BSG and the Project 90 team for supporting the fellowship and providing the opportunity to learn from colleagues at Amsterdam UMC.

A new ‘digital doorway’ at the entrance to Northwick Park Hospital’s Emergency Department is allowing patients to register with their smartphones avoiding queues, saving hundreds of administrative hours, and giving staff more time to focus on patients.

Patient Check-In includes a series of questions that provide an initial clinical triage allowing staff to identify potentially unwell or high-risk patients before they are even seen.

The service, which has been developed by tech company Streamwave, has seen more than 6,700 patients digitally check-in with two thirds of all patients now using the system after several weeks.

Chris Nordstrom, an A&E consultant at Northwick Park, said: “Patients traditionally queue at reception and provide front-of-desk staff with details about why they’ve come to A&E which is then manually entered into a PC. This whole process can often take an hour during peak times leaving patients frustrated and staff spending a huge amount of time on manual admin tasks.

“Patients can now scan a QR code using their own mobile phone as soon as they arrive. They are guided through a straightforward registration and initial triage process, with the information entered electronically into our hospital systems. This removes the need for many patients to queue at the reception desk and gives them a faster, smoother and more comfortable way to register.”

The trust plans to introduce Patient Check-In in neighbouring Ealing Emergency Department before the end of the year.
