We’re already over halfway through World Autism Acceptance Month. 💙

It’s a good moment to pause and reflect - what have we learned, and what can we still do?

Acceptance isn’t something we focus on for just one month. It’s something we build every day through understanding, listening, and making space for different ways of thinking, communicating, and experiencing the world.

There’s still time this month to:

🧠 Learn from autistic voices and lived experiences
🤝 Challenge stigma and misconceptions
🌍 Make small changes that create more inclusive environments
💬 Start meaningful conversations at home, school, or work

And beyond April, let’s keep that momentum going.

Because real acceptance lasts all year round. 💙

💚 Supporting emotional regulation in younger children can feel overwhelming at times - you’re not alone.

Early childhood is a period of big emotions, rapid development, and limited ability to manage feelings independently. Meltdowns, tears, or challenging behaviour are often signs that a child is still learning how to regulate their emotions and needs support from the adults around them. 💭

Our online parent consultations provide a safe, supportive space to explore emotional regulation in young children and to think together about practical, developmentally appropriate ways to support your child’s emotional world. You’ll speak with an experienced therapist who understands early childhood development and family dynamics.

When children feel angry, they’re not being “naughty”... they’re overwhelmed.

Anger is a normal and healthy emotion, but for children, it can feel intense and unmanageable. When big feelings take over, children often don’t yet have the brain development or skills needed to regulate what’s happening inside them. Instead, their body moves into a fight, flight or freeze response, making calm thinking temporarily unavailable.

This is why reasoning or consequences often don’t work in the heat of the moment - children need co-regulation first, before they can reflect or learn.

In this blog, we explore:

🧒 Why anger looks so big in young children

🧠 What’s happening in the brain during angry outbursts

🧩 How adults can respond in ways that help children feel safe and supported

January can bring change, expectation and transition, especially for children. New routines, returning to school, and the emotional weight of a new term can all stir up big feelings.

For young children, the capacity to emotionally regulate is still developing. What children need most when they dysregulate is calm, connection, and support from the adults around them.

So, this year, let’s remember…

🔹 Children aren’t giving us a hard time; they’re having a hard time

🔹 Emotional regulation takes time and support

🔹 Connection comes before correction

As we step into the year ahead, we’re here to support children, parents and schools with thoughtful, professional therapeutic care.

✨ Wishing you a gentle start to the year ✨
