Royal Society of Medicine – Spring 2026 Aesthetic Medicine Symposium
Periocular and Lid–Cheek Junction Skin Rejuvenation, Volume Restoration, and the Management of Treatment Complications

⚠️ The most important aspect of aesthetic medicine is its safe application.
🚀 Patients often ask about achieving results in the shortest possible time. Of course, I always aim to deliver excellent results efficiently. However, those of you who have known me over the past 25 years will already know my thoughts on “time frames, seasons, and reasons.”
And I will say it again:
Aesthetic and regenerative medicine is not an Emergency Room, where doctors race against time to save lives. It is not about speed or rushing to achieve results faster than everyone else. It is about safely reversing the signs of ageing while minimising risks and avoiding complications.
The goal is not simply to get you where you want to be quickly — it is to get you there safely and responsibly.

⚠️ Please remember that aesthetic treatments should never be rushed or chosen randomly based on trends seen on TikTok, YouTube, or other social media platforms.
There are established medical principles and protocols. These have been developed over the last 30–50 years by scientists and medical professionals to ensure patient safety.
Please do not allow marketing, social media, peer pressure, or DIY treatment trends to influence your decisions regarding treatment choices, devices, timing, or the speed at which procedures should be performed.

Stay safe, stay young, stay happy 💖

What causes us to age faster? Is it pollution? Bad food? Viral and bacterial diseases? Stress? Overwhelming work hours? Ci******es? Alcohol? The answer is all of these factors.

At Harley & Loveridge Medical Aesthetics we don't just inject fillers and Botox to make our clients only look younger. Any clinic can inject Botox and fillers. We are unique. We do much more. We use our knowledge of biologically active points and energy vectors to treat our clients not only against wrinkles and sagging skin, but holisticly. Of course we make no secret of using Botox, dermal fillers, lasers, PRP, exosomes and polynucleotides safely and effectively since 2002. The question is how much and for how long can you inject Botox and filler until they are no longer effective? How much polynucleotides and exosomes can you inject safely before you cause an overload by an overdose? Some medical doctor are saying "Botox is only effective until the ahe of 65". Some plastic surgeons will tell you "never do anything and just go for a facelift between the age of 45-55", but it only costs you from £20,000+VAT onwards.

At Harley Medical Aesthetics we don't advocate surgery unless it is undeniably too late to treat ageing conservatively.

We use different technologies and modalities. Amongst them is BAEWP&V Acupuncture - acupuncture of biologically active whirlpools and vectors for anti-aging with the aim of detoxing your body and increasing your energy, promoting relaxation of overwhelmed nervous system, rebalancing of energy flow in the body’s energy channels for physical and emotional well-being younger, healthier looking skin and stronger immune system.

Acupuncture point
Gallbladder 8 - the emergency pill for intoxicated and distressed.

In Chinese language Shuai Gu - modern medical term GB8, means the Valley of the Leader, the place where the mind regains its uprightness when the spirit has become disturbed by poisonous (toxic) excesses. Located above the ear, this point symbolizes in the traditional Chinese physiology a place on the body where the impurities of the Liver can be released to exist the body. When a person is overwhelmed by toxins - alcohol, smoking, drugs/overload by medications, unhealthy foods, demands of a stressful job/study, a distressing relationship, separation from or loss of a beloved person, the Qi [energy] of the Liver turns into a fire and rises like an enraged flame disrupting the clarity of the mind and thoughts. Usual symptoms are headaches, pulsing noise or ringing in the ears, anxiety, insomnia, unexplained, sudden, stubbing pains, loss of balance, vomiting. Over a long-term period such intoxications lead to eventual overwhelm of the nervous, endocrine and immune systems, which manifest through manic depressive disorders, chronic idiopathic pains, susceptibility to infections and eventual body systems shut down and death. This is why often when we see a person in a sudden and severe distress, we see them placing their hands around their head cupping their ears - they are lost in anxiety, unable to analyse and judge clearly, they are in a state of emotional and physical chaos and agony.
Shuai Gu acts as a release point, calming the distress and retuning the mind to its healthy functions.
By releasing a small amount of blood and subsequently needling Shuai Gu point, toxins can be released and pathological energy flow can be corrected to return to its healthy vector. Thus, the point becomes a therapeutic pill that treats the disbalance of the mind.

Where mind reigns over chaos, where person's will reigns over the addictions, there body energies flow undisturbed, the body stays strong and healthy, the person becomes a leader of their life path, their identity and their destiny.

📍Acupuncture is powerful.

🔥Whenever you are in a distress.
😪Whenever you are in pain.
😵‍💫If you can't sleep.
☣️If you need detoxification.
👿If you are ready to fight your addictions be that ci******es, alcohol, or an emotional overwhelm,
I am here to help you.

Skin Papillomas: Cosmetic Issue or Metabolic Signal?
Skin papillomas (commonly called skin tags) are generally benign growths of the skin. While often considered purely cosmetic, research suggests they may sometimes be associated with underlying metabolic conditions — particularly insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome.
Human papillomavirus (HPV) is common in the general population, but most skin tags are not directly caused by active HPV infection. Instead, their development is more strongly linked to:
Insulin resistance
Elevated insulin and IGF-1 signaling
Obesity and central adiposity
Chronic low-grade inflammation
The Metabolic Connection
In insulin resistance, circulating insulin levels remain chronically elevated. Insulin and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) stimulate cellular proliferation and may contribute to excess growth of keratinocytes and fibroblasts — the cells that form skin tags.
Studies show that individuals with multiple skin tags have a higher likelihood of:
Impaired glucose tolerance
Type 2 diabetes
Dyslipidemia
Fatty liver (hepatic steatosis)
This does not mean skin tags are dangerous — but they may function as a cutaneous marker of metabolic dysfunction.
Fatty Liver and Inflammation
Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is closely associated with insulin resistance. When liver metabolism becomes impaired:
Inflammatory signaling increases
Oxidative stress rises
Hormonal balance may shift
These systemic changes can influence tissue growth regulation.
Metabolic Strategies (Evidence-Based Approach)
Improving insulin sensitivity is the cornerstone of prevention and metabolic correction:
Reduced refined carbohydrate intake
Adequate protein and fiber
Regular resistance and aerobic exercise
Weight management
Sleep optimization
Medically supervised intermittent fasting may improve insulin sensitivity and metabolic flexibility in some individuals. However, fasting is not appropriate for everyone and should be individualized.
Importantly: Lifestyle changes improve metabolic health — they do not directly treat HPV.
Micronutrients & Supportive Compounds
Certain nutrients support immune and metabolic function:
Vitamin D – immune modulation and cell regulation
Zinc – antiviral immunity and DNA repair
B vitamins – methylation and liver metabolism
Choline – supports hepatic fat export
N-acetylcysteine (NAC) – antioxidant support
Phytochemicals (sulforaphane, resveratrol) and medicinal mushrooms are being studied, but current evidence remains preliminary.
Supplementation should be individualized and guided by laboratory evaluation.
Cherry Angiomas
Cherry angiomas (Campbell de Morgan spots) are benign vascular growths unrelated to HPV. They are common with aging and generally harmless. While some research explores links with oxidative stress or metabolic changes, strong causal evidence is limited.
Removal options include:
Laser therapy
Electrocautery
Radiofrequency
These treat the visible lesion only.
The Bigger Picture
Skin tags and cherry angiomas are usually benign and not dangerous. However, when multiple lesions appear — especially alongside weight gain, fatigue, or other metabolic symptoms — it may be reasonable to evaluate:
Fasting glucose and insulin
HbA1c
Lipid profile
Liver enzymes
Waist circumference and BMI
Local removal treats the symptom.
Metabolic optimization addresses the underlying physiology.

Basal Cell Carcinoma: Cutaneous Manifestation of a locally malignant tumor.
These illustrations show different clinical presentations of basal cell carcinoma (BCC).
BCC is the most common malignant skin tumor, which arise from the basal cells of the epidermis. These lesions are usually found on the nose, forehead, chin, cheeks, lower lip, apex of the ears, upper sides of the face by the ears, upper shoulders, lower legs, wrists. They are less common on areas covered by clothing. A particularly vulnerable area due to chronic exposure to solar radiation, which is the main risk factor associated with the development of all skin cancers is the face.
A range of pathological changes can be observed by the naked eye; these changes include a pearly, shiny papule to lesions with an irregular surface, nodular appearance, or ulcerated areas, irregular (coil shaped) blood vessels, fragile blood vessels which bleed easily. These characteristics reflect progressive growth of the malignant tumor, which typically advances slowly, but has the ability to invade local tissues.
A raised border, translucent texture, a tendency to erode are classic features that raise suspicion for this type of skin cancer. On a microscopic level, basal cell carcinoma is characterized by disorganized cellular proliferation.
Although it rarely produces distant metastases, its significance lies in its ability to cause damage to surrounding structures, especially in facial areas where anatomy is complex.
It is very important to seek professional opinion about appearance of new persistent skin changes such as growing and changing "moles", new itchy pimples and ulcers that do not heal within 5 weeks. They require dermatoscopy and removal. Sometimes it is important to carry out biopsy (histopathological examination carried out by pathologists in laboratories). Biopsy in some cases is necessary before the procedure can be performed or after. It is not common to perform biopsy to remove a small BCC lesion. However, suspected Malignant Melanoma tumours (MM) are always sent to a laboratory for diagnostic examination purpose, for advice on the type of tumour (primary or secondary) and on its extent of growth because the end of Malignant Melanoma is never visible to the naked eye.

Syringomas, milia, papillome, sebaceous gland hyperplasia, solar keratomas (SK), compound warts are all small nodules on your skin.

If you have noticed small, skin-colored, white, brown or black lumps on your face, under your eyes, on your neck or any other part of your body including intimate areas these are most likely papilloma, milia, syringomas, sebaceous gland hyperplasia, solar keratosis or warts. Today, I would like to talk about syringomas. These are benign growths that arise from the ducts of sweat glands. These glands produce sweat to regulate our body temperature. These ducts can overgrow in the dermis, creating the rounded elevations we see on the skin’s surface. It is a very common condition but often is left unattended by GPs on the NHS because syringomas are benign overgrowth, so they do not rase clinical concerns.
They usually appear symmetrically under both eyes. Unlike pimples, syringomas do not have an opening and cannot be “popped,” because their consistency is solid. They are formed by dense tissue rather than an accumulation of superficial fat or keratin as in milia.
Their presence often leads people to seek aesthetic consultation due to their visible location. They frequently appear during puberty and menopause. They may increase due to hormonal changes in pregnancy, extreme heat (saunas, steam room, sunbathing), which can trigger their development.
The skin under the eyes is the thinnest on the body, making any changes very noticeable. Syringomas' structures remind us of the complexity of our skin, which is the largest organ of our body with millions of microscopic organels.
Understanding histology (study of cells) and microanatomy helps us realise that every lump, bump and indentation of skin texture has a simple scientific explanation. Syringomas are a benign overgrowth of the body’s natural cooling system. Knowing the difference between sweat gland lesions and sebaceous gland conditions is essential for informed and careful skin health management.

Did you know that
Caesarean section is the only major operation in the world in which:
• Five layers of tissue are carefully cut — skin, fat, fascia, muscles and the uterus.
• A new life comes into the world, sometimes urgently, sometimes unexpectedly.
• And just a few hours later, the patient is expected to get up, walk and care for another human being.
Six hours after surgery — when stitches, staples and deep internal incisions are still painful — the mother is asked to:
🍼 Feed her baby
🚼 Change nappies
❤️ Bond with her baby despite exhaustion
🛏 Sit upright despite severe abdominal pain
And while the wound is still fresh, her body is simultaneously coping with:
⚡ Uterine contractions as the womb returns to its original size
⚡ Intense hormonal changes
⚡ Breast milk production
⚡ Emotional overload
⚡ Severe sleep deprivation
And yet… she keeps going.
Even when:
💔 Laughing hurts
💔 Sneezing hurts
💔 Standing hurts
💔 Sleeping hurts
💔 Breathing causes pain in the wound
She keeps going.
Not because it is easy.
Not because she feels ready.
But because someone depends on her.
And that is strength.
We share this to raise awareness of the physical and emotional realities of recovery after a caesarean section — a reality that is too often minimised, mocked, or labelled the “easy way”.
There is nothing easy about major abdominal surgery followed by immediate newborn care.
To all mothers who have had a caesarean and are reading this:
You did not choose the easy path.
You chose the necessary one.
You chose life, safety and love.
Your scar is not a weakness.
✨ It is proof of survival. ✨
Planned or unplanned.
Calm or emergency.
After labour or without warning.
You carried life.
You endured surgery.
You stood up before your wounds had healed.
This story is shared to raise awareness of postpartum recovery, surgical birth, and the invisible resilience of mothers whose strength so often goes unnoticed.

After having my daughters delivered via C-section, I didn't have time to reflect on the above. 3 weeks after she was delivered by emergency C-section i was driving, shopping, caring for her, breastfeeding her, cooking and in spare time treating my own patients.
Looking back on those days, I don't understand how it was possible.
This is women's power and it is often unseen, unspoken of and unappreciated.
