Royal College of Nursing Students

Royal College of Nursing Students RCN Students is the student arm of the Royal College of Nursing and proudly represents nursing students across the UK

The RCN Student Committee is an elected body of students from across the United Kingdom, all of whom work alongside the wider Royal College of Nursing to ensure that the views of students are heard. The RCN is a member-led organisation and as representatives we work with students in our areas, seeking to address any concerns or issues they might have. We're proud to be student nurses, and proud to

represent our peers in our role as committee representatives. We fight alongside you, and on your behalf to ensure that your experience as a student nurse is the best it can be.

The NMC has proposed changes to practice learning standards for nursing and midwifery, including reducing programme hours for nursing by up to 1,000 hours.

We have concerns about the implications of these proposals and are urging the NMC to rethink. We will be working to influence this over the coming months, calling for these proposals to be reconsidered before any final decision is taken.

If you’re currently studying, you will not be affected by these changes, but future student nurses could be if the proposals go ahead.

Every student nurse deserves a solid start in the profession. The RCN is behind you, and we will continue to raise the issues that matter to nursing students.

From reducing programme hours to mandating community practice, here's what the proposals could mean for nursing education, and what the RCN thinks
