🌻🌻And here we are again! 🌻🌻
Spring has sprung and today’s equinox is officially the first day of spring. The transition from winter to spring as an important time of renewal, not just in nature, but also in our bodies.
As the spring equinox results in an equal length of day and night, we believe in TCM that it is an important stage to help balance yin & yang in the human body.
The element associated with spring is wood when it is at its most manifest. It is known for its strength & flexibility & is linked with the color green.
Wood represents growth and I’m reminded of this when I see the little green shoots appearing in parks and gardens. Like the new plants pushing through the earth, the energy of the wood element is strident and forceful, it gets things done.
In human beings, this energy can be frustrated when unbalanced, but when channeled properly it’s also associated with altruism and helping others.
The direction of the wood element is east and so, appropriately, at the spring equinox the sun rises directly in the east. Wind is associated with wood and it reflects the movement and change of the season and the ability to burst through & overcome obstacles.
From a spiritual perspective, the wood element is said to house the “hun” which is the part of the spirit that goes on after we die. For me, the “hun” represents the wood element’s ability to transform life into its next stage. I use this time to reflect on where I’m going and what aspects of my current life I’m choosing the leave behind.
Anger is the emotion associated with the wood, which can cause stagnation and a pent-up feeling, but anger expressed healthily can be the impetus for transformation and change.
It’s recommended to cleanse the body during the spring. The liver & gall bladder are the organs associated with the wood element and supporting these organs of detoxification in the spring can help them work better.
Acupuncture treatments are a great way of moving stagnation both physically and emotionally, so come on in and let me take care of you as you start a new healing regime, detox, or work on a new plan.
