Three days. Three big themes. One goal: even better care. πŸ“š

Our Registered Manager, Amy Coleman, has just completed the Managers Essential Standards programme at Right at Home's National Office in Waterloo, Merseyside – an intensive course for Registered Managers and senior staff from Right at Home offices across the country.

Day one: leadership, culture, and creating a team where people feel safe to speak up.

Day two: the legal foundations that protect every client, including the Mental Capacity Act.

Day three: governance and proving quality, not just promising it.

Being part of a large, experienced national network means training of this depth is simply part of how we work.

And we don't see development as something reserved for managers; we want opportunities like this for others across our team too. πŸ’›

What Amy learned in Merseyside is already showing up in the care we deliver across Wandsworth and Lambeth.

"Why does home care cost what it does?"

It's one of the most common questions families ask us and an entirely fair one. πŸ’

So rather than ask you to take our word for it, our new blog walks through the figures published independently by the Homecare Association, the professional body for home care across the UK.

The short version?

Between 75% and 90% of the cost of an hour of care goes to the people doing the work, or to making it possible for them to do it well.

Home care is, fundamentally, skilled human time and that's rightly the most valuable part.

We also explain why we're a Living Wage Accredited employer, and why we pay that rate for every hour our Carers work, including travel and training, not just the time they're in a client's home.

An honest read for anyone weighing up care. πŸ‘‡

Using the Homecare Association’s independent 2026/27 minimum price, we explain honestly where the money goes when you pay for quality home care.

We are so proud of our Registered Manager, Amy Coleman, and the podcast she is building alongside her role here: Life in Care. πŸŽ™οΈ

Life in Care is an honest, unfiltered space for conversations about what working in the care sector is really like: the rewarding parts, the difficult parts, and everything that happens behind the scenes.

There are three episodes out now, with a new one released every Sunday at 5pm.

🎧 Episode 1 sets out the heart behind the project, giving the people who work in care a voice.

🎧 Episode 2 is Amy's own story: arriving in England from South Africa in 2019, starting out as a carer, and working her way up to Registered Manager.

🎧 Episode 3 is a thoughtful deep-dive into leadership, culture, and what makes a truly high-performing care team.

Whether you work in care, have a relative who receives it, or are simply curious about the people who do this work, it is well worth a listen.

Read more about the first 3 episodes and find links to YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts in our blog: https://www.rightathome.co.uk/wandsworth-lambeth/news-item/life-in-care-podcast/

We are delighted to introduce our new Registered Manager, Amy Coleman. πŸ’›

Amy joined Right at Home Wandsworth & Lambeth at the end of May, and she has well and truly hit the ground running. In just a few days, she is already adding real value across the office and out in the community, and has impressed us with her energy, attention to detail, and warmth.

Amy brings exceptional experience to the role. Since starting in care in 2019, she has worked her way up through every front-line and management position β€” Carer, Ambassador, Care Coordinator, Client Care Manager, and Registered Manager. She holds an NVQ Level 5 in Health and Social Care with Distinction.

Outside of work, Amy is also launching her own podcast, "Life in Care", a passion project bringing voices from across the care sector together to share honest conversations about working in the industry. Watch this space.

Originally from Johannesburg, she now lives in England with her husband and Zulu, a dachshund who, by all accounts, runs the house.

Welcome to the team, Amy. We are absolutely delighted to have you. πŸŽ‰

Kew Gardens hit 34.8Β°C on Monday – the hottest May day in UK records, breaking a high that had stood since 1922. With more 30Β°C+ days forecast through the week, this is a serious week of weather for our older neighbours. 🌑️

On the blog: practical tips for keeping your home as cool as possible, staying safe through the day, and the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heatstroke that mean it's time to act.

If you've got a loved one in Wandsworth or Lambeth and you'd value an extra pair of eyes on them this week, get in touch – we're here.

Our Information & Support guides are designed to help you understand different types of care, when support might be needed, and what to consider when making decisions for yourself or a loved one.

What a night. πŸŒ™

On Saturday, our Managing Director Sorin spent the evening marshalling Chelsea Bridge for The MoonWalk London 2026 β€” Walk the Walk's iconic overnight charity walk for breast and other cancers, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. πŸ’—

The Arena at Clapham Common was a party in itself β€” live music, intricate hand-customised costumes, thousands of walkers in decorated bras under a Neon 90s sky.

Out on the route, our local BNI Nightingale chapter showed up in force, some walking, some marshalling, all cheering each other on.

One of the best moments? Two little girls who came out with their family to cheer the walkers on. We promoted them to honorary marshals on the spot β€” neon green volunteering caps and all. We won't forget their faces in a hurry.

On the blog: a reflection on the evening, and why showing up like this is part of who we are. Link below:
