St George’s PICU Monthly Masterclass Series 2026–27 is here!

We’re delighted to launch our Paediatric Critical Care Monthly Masterclass Series at St George’s Hospital Major Trauma Centre, London.

The series is aimed at colleagues starting out in, working in, or simply interested in PICU and HDU, including paediatricians, anaesthetists, ANPs/ACPs and the wider multidisciplinary team.

We kick off today, 17 September, with:

The programme continues monthly with sessions covering death & organ donation, neuro-inflammatory disease, oncology, shock and vasoactive drugs, anaesthesia, renal replacement therapy, long-term ventilation, surgical topics and traumatic brain injury.

Great to see such a strong St George’s presence at today’s South Thames Paediatric Network TriPICU meeting.

A hugely valuable morning attended by senior PICU leaders from Evelina London, King’s, St George’s and STRS, bringing together expertise from across the region.

There were excellent discussions around interesting and challenging cases, clinical pathways, surge pressures, capacity, and planning for paediatric critical care across South Thames.

A particular highlight was the excellent case presentation by Emily, alongside a very valuable governance presentation by Christina — both generating thoughtful discussion and shared learning across the network.

Fantastic leadership from the dynamic Dilanee Sangaran, driving collaboration, shared learning and positive change across the region.

Particularly proud to see St George’s so strongly represented and actively helping to shape that change — contributing clinically, operationally and strategically to the future of paediatric critical care across South Thames.

A great example of what strong network working can achieve for children and families.

What a fantastic afternoon at our PICU Sports Day and picnic!

It was wonderful to see colleagues and families together outside of work.

Days like these remind us that the strength of our team isn't just in the hospital—it's in the friendships, support and sense of community we build beyond it too. 💙

A special thank you to our team members who held the fort back in PICU, continuing to provide exceptional care for our sick children. 🙏

I remember a parents' feedback from many years ago, "it's not your fancy machines that put out minds at ease but it's how you all treat eachother!"

🌟 Excellent work by Team SGH at ESPNIC 2026, Malta! 🇬🇧🇲🇹

Proud to see St George's PICU represented on the international stage with multiple presentations and quality improvement projects at the 35th ESPNIC Congress.

Our work showcased innovations and outcomes in:
🔹 Paediatric traumatic brain injury
🔹 Airway clearance and cough assist in neurocritical care
🔹 Mechanical ventilation weaning and CPAP/PS optimisation
🔹 Impact of the UK maternal RSV vaccination programme on PICU admissions

These projects reflect the dedication, collaboration, and commitment of the entire multidisciplinary team to improving outcomes for critically ill children.

🎉 Recruitment started at St George's PICU! 🎉

We are pleased to announce that recruitment for the PIVOTAL Study has officially commenced at St George's Hospital PICU.

This marks an important milestone in our commitment to advancing paediatric critical care through high-quality clinical research and collaboration.
