PICU at St George's

PICU at St George's The PICU at St George's Hospital, London is a 10 bedded general PICU. We look after children with tr Our outstanding care is world renowned.

St George’s is home to one of the largest children’s hospitals in the country, with paediatric services rated outstanding by the Care Quality Commission (CQC). We are the people that parents rely on when the worst happens to their children. But our facilities are not. Built in the 70s, our wards are tired, cramped and uninviting. Lacking space, our Paediatric Intensive Care Unit is unable to treat

the number of children who need its world-class care. We’re proud to have staff that are some of the most talented and dedicated in the country. However, in desperate need of space, our staff have given up their changing facilities and staff rooms to make way for more beds. This is not sustainable. Help us to raise £5m by 2024 to transform children’s services at St George’s.

These projects reflect the dedication, collaboration, and commitment of the entire multidisciplinary team to improving outcomes for critically ill children.

A huge thank you to all colleagues, collaborators, trainees, nurses, therapists, and families who contribute to making this work possible.

💜 Happy International Nurses Day 💜

Our amazing nurses are honestly the heartbeat of PICU — the ones who somehow manage to care, comfort, organise, troubleshoot, reassure families, keep everyone in line, and still find time to make everyone laugh.

You give so much of yourselves, often quietly and without fuss.

So grateful to work with this brilliant St George’s PICU nursing team. 🌍✨
Different backgrounds, different journeys, one amazing team.

Thank you for everything you do — the big things, the tiny details, and the million things in between.

HAPPY NURSES DAY!!!

The PRESSURE study has officially completed recruitment 🙌📊

A massive thank you to everyone involved — from screening and recruiting patients to late-night discussions, paperwork, coordination, and all the behind-the-scenes effort that makes research in a busy PICU actually happen.

These milestones are never achieved by one person alone. Proper team science 💙👏

Excited to see what the results show! 🚀

Today we said goodbye — well, sort of — to the absolutely brilliant Dr Mostafa Elshazly. 🥹👏 Mostafa Galal

Mostafa is heading off to complete his cardiac competencies, but thankfully, he is still going to be around… (so this is less of a goodbye and more of a “we’ll allow you a brief educational detour.” 😄 )

A fantastic doctor, wonderful colleague, and all-round lovely human.

We’ll miss having you, but we’re very proud of you and wish you the very best for the next step.

See you around, Mostafa — 💙
