Aesthetics gave Luci the same feeling she had when she first started midwifery.

She joined us at our Open Evening last week to share her story, and we caught up with her afterwards. Luci started training with us in March, and since then she’s completed her Foundation and Advanced Toxin and Filler courses, our Skin Rejuvenation package and a Sculptra masterclass. She put her training into practice straight away, and had her first Sculptra patient booked in the day after her masterclass.

What she loves most is the work itself: patients leaving feeling good about themselves, and being the person who gave them that experience.

Most people come into aesthetics expecting the needle to be the hard part. For many injectors, it’s the conversation before it.

Some patients arrive with a concern that’s simple to address. Others arrive with something that treatment won’t fix, and no amount of product will change how they feel when they look in the mirror. Spotting the difference, sometimes including the signs of body dysmorphic disorder, is one of the most important skills you’ll develop. It’s also one of the least talked about.

The signs aren’t always obvious. A patient might be friendly, well-informed, and completely sure of what they want. That’s why the consultation matters so much. It’s where you find out whether treatment is the right answer, and it’s where you protect both the patient and yourself.

Saying no, or not yet, is part of the job, and the injectors who handle it with care tend to build the most trusted practices over time.

This is a big part of what we teach, because confidence in aesthetics comes from knowing when to treat as much as how.

The injecting is the part everyone pictures. It’s also only one piece of what you’ll learn 💉

Before you pick up a needle, you need to understand the face you’re treating: where the vessels run, how structure changes with age, and why the same request from two patients can need two completely different plans. You need to know how the products behave, who shouldn’t be treated at all, and what to do if something doesn’t go as expected. And once the treatment’s done, your responsibility continues through aftercare, documentation, and follow-up.

That’s why good training goes well beyond technique. The confidence new injectors are looking for doesn’t come from how many times they’ve watched it done. It comes from understanding what’s happening under the skin, knowing how to assess a patient properly, and having the support to keep developing after the first course.

The nose is one of the highest-risk areas you can treat with filler 👃🏼

The dorsal nasal artery, the lateral nasal artery and the external nasal artery- the vascular supply to the nose is dense, the vessels are small, and the collateral circulation means that an intravascular injection here can have consequences that go well beyond the nose itself.

Vision loss following nasal filler is a documented complication. It’s extremely rare, but the anatomy explains the risk, and understanding it lets practitioners treat this area safely.

Then there’s the musculature. The nasalis, the depressor septi nasi, the procerus - understanding how these muscles influence nasal shape and movement changes how you assess what’s actually achievable with filler and what isn’t.

A patient who wants tip projection but has a strong depressor septi pulling the tip down under animation needs a different conversation than a patient with a static deformity. Treating them the same way produces different results.

Not every patient is a Sculptra patient. Knowing the difference is what determines whether the result lives up to what you both expected.

Sculptra doesn’t work like filler. It doesn’t add immediate volume and it doesn’t show its best results on treatment day. It stimulates the body’s own collagen production over time, which means the right patient needs to understand and accept that timeline before you start. The ones who do tend to be among the most satisfied patients in any aesthetic practice.

The ones who don’t are the ones who end up disappointed, not because the treatment failed, but because the consultation did.
