My classes encourage students to listen to, and work sensitively with their own bodies and nature. By cultivating awareness of how the practice affects the body, mind and spirit – students create a process of self-enquiry, allowing them to reconnect with their own inner teacher. My intention is to create an environment in which students are empowered and inspired to find their own expressions of y

CREATING A SENSE OF SAFETY IN OUR BODIES // JOIN TASH & I TOMORROW 12:30

After the events over the last couple of years, life has gotten busy & social again.

We’ve a sense of urgency to socialise a lot more, visit more places and generally be out and about.

Whilst it’s been really exciting to be back out in the world - it can often feel a lot more exhausting than before. This has taken an inevitable effect on our nervous systems and can create a sense of unsafety in our bodies-resulting in higher levels of anxiety, overwhelm and burnout.

Join and I tomorrow as we talk about how we are finding our way in the world again and explore some of the practices that we use to cultivate safety and promote relaxation in our bodies.

We will also be briefly talking about the retreat that both Tash and I are running in Kent from the 26th-29th August.

Tash and I have combined teaching experience of over 11 years and are very passionate about sharing yoga, embodiment and meditation practices to develop a kinder connection to ourselves.

HOW MANY OF THESE FEEL FAMILIAR?

I know a lot of them do for me.

My new programme is designed to help women struggling with stress, burnout and feeling stuck.

A lot of the women we work with also identify as and notice they have a loud, critical inner dialogue.

Follow and DM us 'GOOD ENOUGH' for a practice called: Show Your Inner Critic the way of Good Enough.

EXPANSION VS CONTRACTION

Pendulation in movement - moving between expansion and contraction can be a way of getting more comfortable in what you find uncomfortable.

A simple way to physically move between expansion and contraction could be to move forwards into a front-body-opening lunge and lean back into the strength of the back body & protect the front.

What feels more familiar?

When life gets tough do you find yourself expanding to fill the gap or contracting into protection?

Do these movement patterns have corresponding emotional states/ feelings / mindsets?

Comment below & let me know.

We want to be able to access both responses at different times - sometimes we need to be more open & expressive and outward focussed, sometimes we need to draw back and lean into self support.

We can use physical pendulation to practice moving into the less comfortable one in a way that feels safe.

These connections between how we move and how we feel and respond are the sort of explorations I’ll be sharing in my workshop Sunday Sanctuary on 26th June - booking here:

MONDAY MANTRA: DIGNITY & EASE.

Swipe to see simple steps of how to invite those words into your body/ mind right now.

Notice any impact ?

I find my whole posture shifts, my body feels more spacious & my shoulders drop down.

Amazing to witness the power of language & thought in determining the nature of our experience.

Let me know how you found it.

EMBODIED ENQUIRY:

Some movements I use to explore connecting to my physical centre.

These movements allow me to gather back to the strength at my centre & then sense that strength radiating & expanding from the inside out. This allows me to find stability when balancing.

This physical experience also helps give form to the idea of connecting back to, and expanding out from, my own centre on a more mental/ emotional level.

How do you feel when you move from & around your physical centre?

1. Extension / flexion and circumduction of the spine

2. Extension / flexion of whole body from upright

3. Extension / flexion of whole body from warrior 3

4. Seated twist/ standing twist / balancing twist

MY MANTRA ATM:

This is something I’ve been working on lately…I would say my innate skill here is pretty underdeveloped.

I am pulled into the orbit & perspective of anyone I’m around and find it pretty tricky to stay connected to ‘me’…

Some of the signs I’m learning to recognise which tell me that I’ve lost connection to my centre are:

🕵️‍♀️ Find myself saying & thinking in ‘shoulds’ & ‘musts’ ‘I must do x….’ ‘I should do y….’

🕵️‍♀️ Finding it hard to think of anything to say about myself when a friend asks me how I’m doing - I’ve a tendency to start reporting other people’s news

🕵️‍♀️ Finding myself wishing I’d said something after the fact & replaying past conversations in my head

🕵️‍♀️ Staying out until everyone else goes home rather than leaving when I actually want to go home

🕵️‍♀️ Feeling a disconnect between what I’m thinking & what I’m communicating

I find physically centring myself to be a really good way to help bring me back mentally & help me stay more present when I veer off course.

Anyone else ever experience being pulled off centre on the regs?

How do you regroup when you feel pulled out of alignment?

Happy St Bridget’s day to my fave Bridget!

It’s also Imbolc - a pagan fire festival that marks the mid point between winter solstice & spring equinox.

Oh and it was a stunning ‘Wolf’ full 🐺 Moon on Thursday.

So lots of shedding, renewal & growth going on inside & out right now I reckon.

Without the social markers of the passing of time & mega ground hog day vibes the cycles of nature are feeling all the more noticeable & important to me right now.

How are you connecting to rhythms & cycles whilst the days / weeks feel so similar to each other?

Stop scrolling, put on the sound, and breathe with me....

X6 second inhale as my hand goes up
X6 seconds exhale as my hand goes down

How does it feel?
Comfortable / difficult / too slow / calming?

The last couple of weekends I’ve been lucky enough to join my teacher Ben Wolff’s breathing school training.

We’ve covered lots of different breathing practices (practices for stress, panic, hypertension, chronic fatigue, pain, insomnia and more) but this diaphragmatic 6 second breathing is the most fundamental.

Apparently this is the scientifically proven optimal breath rate for most adults when we’re not engaged in high intensity physical activity 🤯😯

It’s known as Coherent Breathing or Resonant Breathing.

Most of us are breathing A LOT faster than this. Often when we’re working in front of screens we even periodically hold our breath!

James Nestor - best selling author of Breath
(a brilliant book that my gorgeous friend gave to me) describes Coherent breathing as:

‘A calming practice that places the heart, lungs and circulation into a state of coherence, where the systems of the body are working at peak efficiency....”

Would anyone like to do 20 mins of this practice together via IG live each week??
It can take a bit of practice but once you’ve got it, it feels so damn good.

If so what days/ times would suit?
Comment below if you’re keen.

FEELING STUCK?!

Anyone else feeling a bit stagnant or stuck?!

I know I am. Groundhog Day vibes and no concrete future to plan...it’s such a tricky one to navigate.

My husband (who was an event producer in pre covid world) and I are currently living at my family home back in Kent as we wait out the disruption to work and pivot and redraw plans.

We are so so bloody lucky to be able to do this - but moving back to the house you grew up in, in your 30’s, throws up all sorts of extra feelings of being stuck or lack of forward momentum!

Patterns of stagnation have been present in my life for a while even pre covid but the last 6 months have really made me confront them.

And whilst the external trappings of my life might not be ‘progressing’ at a rapid pace for a good while longer, my internal world is starting to feel a lot less restricted.

Yoga/ breathing/ mindful movement practice gives us the chance to work through and process feelings & thoughts via the body. It’s also recently become very clear to me that we need community & support to gather momentum and to process.

The sequence I’m teaching this week is designed to speak to those patterns of ‘stuckness’ and invite in the possibility of change, growth and forward momentum.

Feeling freedom and shifts in the body makes bigger changes feel more attainable.

Wanna join me to flow it all out together?!

Well, hello. 👋🏽

Feels like I’m just peeking my head above the parapet for the first time in a while...How’s everyone doing?

I’ve switched up the class times for my online membership.

They are now:

Mon 12:30 Flow + Meditation
Wed 18:30 Flow + Restorative
Fri 08:00 Flow

You can pay weekly/ monthly and as well as the live sessions each class is recorded and accessible to you at any time too.

As this is my membership & not connected to a studio or timetabled as a particular yoga style - I’m exploring slightly more unusual sequencing.

We're kind of deconstructing the 'yoga' back to it's bare bones.  So it boils down to the mindful, embodied movement, coupled with breath, whilst exploring in new & varied movement patterns.

Adapting to the unexpected is a skill I’m keen to hone - these days more than ever. So changing up & deviating from traditional movement sequences seems a good place to start.

All prices include the live class & the class recordings for use on demand, whenever you would like.

Link in bio will take you to book.
