I love watching local life unfold by the beach at sunset. There’s so much to learn about simple living, gratitude and being present from the warm-hearted people of Sumba. These quiet moments remind me that sometimes, we already have everything we need right in front of us.

I left behind the hectic life of big cities to find serenity and mindful presence on a remote island, learning about its rich culture, beautiful people and stunning nature. 🌅🤍

Yoga by the sea in the morning, after a day of excursions and far too much time in the car, was pure bliss. 🌊🧘‍♀️

Nothing quite like moving slowly, breathing deeply and letting the sea set the pace.

When the tide goes out, life comes in. 🌊

Along the coast of Sumba, low tide reveals a different rhythm: locals heading out to the sea to harvest seaweed, working with the ocean and the seasons.

There’s something beautiful about the simplicity of life here, and I love finding ways to connect with local people and get a glimpse into their everyday world.

Simple work, simple living, deeply connected to the land and sea. 🌊☀️⛰️

Meeting the orangutans of Borneo / Kalimantan🦧🌿

One of those encounters that is difficult to put into words.

Seeing orangutans in their natural home in Kalimantan, Borneo felt incredibly special. There’s something about watching them move through the trees so calmly and deliberately almost as if they have all the time in the world.

Their long arms, expressive faces and almost human-like gestures make it hard not to feel a connection when you’re watching them.

A beautiful reminder of how much there still is to discover, and how much there is to protect. 🌿🦧

There are now estimated to be around 104,700 Bornean orangutans left in the wild, compared with around 230,000 a decade ago. Sadly, they are an endangered species, largely due to habitat loss, deforestation and the destruction of their natural environment.

Big noses, big personalities 🐒🌿

I feel so lucky to have met these wonderfully weird proboscis monkeys in the wild.
And that remarkable nose? In males, it is particularly pronounced and is thought to help attract females and amplify their calls. I couldn’t ask for a better pose, right? 😂
They’re found only on Borneo and are sadly endangered, mainly because so much of their natural habitat is disappearing.

A little strange, a little funny, completely fascinating and such a privilege to see them in their natural home.

Reconnect to self and nature 💚🌿🌲 🌎 We are not separate from nature but expressions of the same processes. Perhaps that’s why many people often experience awe when they recognize these patterns. It’s not just that a pine cone is beautiful; it’s that the same kinds of organising principles that shaped the pine cone also helped shape the vessels carrying blood through our hearts. This recognition can foster a profound sense of connection without requiring us to conclude anything beyond what we can observe scientifically. Most recently I’ve asked this question: What kind of universe gives rise to such extraordinary patterns?

Most of the time the deepest insights don’t arrive as answers but as a growing capacity to notice what’s been there all along. 🌿

💙 The sound of the waves, the flow of a river, the stillness of a lake… they remind me that not everything needs to be rushed or solved.

When I spend time by the water, I breathe more deeply. My mind becomes quieter. I notice more, feel more, and slowly find my way back to myself.

Science tells us that blue spaces can reduce stress, restore our attention, and improve our wellbeing. But sometimes, we don’t need the research to know, we can simply feel it
