Psychotherapy and Counselling

We don’t grow in a vacuum. Who we are is a beautifully complex tapestry woven from every person we’ve loved, clashed with, or learned from. In therapy, looking only at the individual is like looking at a single puzzle piece and trying to guess the whole picture. To truly understand ourselves, we have to look beyond ourselves, into the relationships, environments, and systems that shaped us.

“A tsunami.”
That’s how addiction specialist Nathan Jones describes the impact of compulsive sexual behavior disorder (CSBD). With children as young as 8 accessing online adult content, the effects on their future relationships and emotional well-being can be severe.

But if you are a teenager, an adult, or a parent navigating this tsunami right now, you don’t have to face it alone.

Whether you are struggling with addiction, finding yourself trapped in compulsive p**n use, or trying to protect your family online, we are here to help. Healing is completely possible, and taking the first step to reach out is an act of immense courage.

Thank you, Nathan, for bringing light to this critical issue and for your incredible clinical work.

If you or someone you love needs support, please reach out to us. We’re in this together.

Statistically, there is a massive gender gap in mental health. Only about 7% to 8% of men go to therapy each year, and when dealing with a recognised mental illness, fewer than 42% of men get treatment compared to nearly 57% of women.

Clinical psychologist Dr Max Wood highlights the importance of therapy being adapted for this group of people to ensure effective support.
Traditional face-to-face talk therapy sees three main barriers:

•The Self-Reliance Trap: Asking for help is mistakenly viewed as dropping one’s armour.
•The Action-Oriented Mindset: Men are conditioned to fix problems practically rather than verbally process abstract feelings.
•Shoulder-to-Shoulder Communication: Many men open up more naturally during shared activities rather than in intense, face-to-face settings.

Furthermore, male depression often “acts out” as anger, irritability, or overworking, meaning critical warning signs are frequently missed. To provide effective support, the therapy space must evolve to meet men where they are.

Men, or those who support them: What do you think is the biggest barrier to starting therapy? Let’s talk in the comments.

In Thus Spoke Zarathustra, Nietzsche’s “chaos” refers to the primordial, unrefined drives of the psyche. He warns that the pursuit of total psychic equilibrium leads to the “Last Man” - a figure who has traded their internal fire for a sterile, manageable comfort.

To Nietzsche, the “dancing star” is not born from a state of calm, but from the synthesis of one’s own contradictions into a disciplined, sovereign force. If we view all internal friction as a pathology to be “fixed” or suppressed, we risk extinguishing the very vitality required for self-overcoming.
Psychotherapy, in this existential sense, is not the pursuit of a flat, “balanced” contentment.

It is the process of developing the psychological fortitude to move within one’s own storm. The goal is not to eradicate the chaos, but to harness it.

Systemic therapy looks at the complex network of relationships and patterns of communication between individuals, rather than focusing on a person in isolation. It views psychological symptoms or distress as a byproduct of the “systems” we live in—such as families, couples, or workplace environments.

This is important for identifying deep-rooted cycles and behavioral “loops” that keep people stuck. By understanding these dynamics, clients can develop more sustainable change that improves not just their own well-being, but the health of their entire support network.

Louiza works from our South Kensington clinic and is available for sessions on both a short-term and long-term basis. She offers flexible scheduling, including evening appointments, to accommodate busy professionals and families in the area.

Understanding the link between CSBD and Avoidant Attachment with Nathan Jones. 🧠

Clinical research, including the Crocker Study, consistently identifies Avoidant Attachment as a primary predictor of Compulsive Sexual Behavior Disorder (CSBD).

This connection is rarely about the behaviour itself, but rather how the nervous system manages emotional distance.

For individuals with an avoidant style, intimacy can be perceived as an emotional threat. In these instances, sexual compulsion often serves as a “deactivating strategy”—a way to achieve neurochemical regulation while maintaining a safe barrier against vulnerability.

Recognising that CSBD is often a maladaptive attachment response is essential for moving towards sustainable recovery and genuine connection.

Displacement may offer temporary relief, but it eventually erodes relationships. Emotional maturity begins with noticing where the feeling truly belongs, and not passing the stress on.

“Everything can be taken from a man but one thing... to choose one’s way.” — Viktor Frankl

Perspective is the lens that colors your entire reality. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, try shifting the lens. What is this situation trying to teach you? What meaning can you draw from the struggle?

That’s the heart of existential therapy which Belinda practices: Finding the “why” so you can bear almost any “how.”
