October is Stoptober, a chance to think about your relationship with smoking and, if you feel ready, take a step towards becoming smoke free.

The NHS Stoptober challenge focuses on reaching 28 days without smoking, as people who make it to 28 days smoke free are five times more likely to quit for good. And the benefits can start surprisingly quickly, with positive changes to your heart rate, oxygen levels, breathing and circulation beginning from the moment you stop.

Quitting isnโ€™t always easy, and it doesnโ€™t have to be something you tackle alone. The NHS has free tools, practical advice and support to help you manage cravings, understand your triggers and find an approach that works for you.

No judgement. No pressure. Just support to help you make the choices that feel right for your health and wellbeing.

You can also download the free NHS Quit Smoking app for extra support along the way:

World Menopause Day takes place on 18 October each year, helping to raise awareness, share trusted information and improve the experience of women going through menopause around the world.

This yearโ€™s theme is Chronic Pain at Midlife, shining a light on an issue that can affect many women during and after the menopause transition, but can sometimes be overlooked or underestimated.

The aim is to encourage better recognition, more open conversations and access to evidence based support and care.

Menopause can look and feel very different for everyone, so understanding what is happening in your body and feeling able to talk about it can be an important first step.

At KnowU, our Check Ins can help you build a clearer picture of your overall health and wellbeing, giving you useful information to support conversations with your GP or healthcare professional if something doesnโ€™t feel quite right.

Sometimes, having a little more insight into your own health can make it easier to know what questions to ask and where to seek further support.

Today is World Mental Health Day and this yearโ€™s theme is โ€œLived experiences heard: real voices, real change.โ€

Itโ€™s a reminder that people who have experienced mental health challenges first-hand bring valuable insight that should help shape the services, support and decisions designed around them.

At KnowU, we believe understanding how youโ€™re really feeling is an important part of looking after your overall wellbeing. Our wellbeing check-ins offer a simple, supportive way to learn more about your health and wellbeing, open up conversations and highlight areas that may need a little more attention.

Mental health looks different for everyone, and sometimes simply having the space to pause, reflect and be heard can be an important first step.

No judgement, no pressure, just greater awareness and support to help you understand you.

I booked onto Emmaโ€™s Watch the Sunrise meditation this morning and thought Iโ€™d timed my morning pretty wellโ€ฆ until I got caught up in emails and calls!

I arrived on time (although anyone who knows me knows I much prefer to be early ๐Ÿ˜…) and on the way there I was thinking, why did I book this? I havenโ€™t got time today.

And that was exactly why I needed it.

Emma has such a magical way of calming the nervous system, and every time I leave I feel like Iโ€™ve added a few more tools to my toolkit.

Today she also shared Spike Milliganโ€™s Smile poem, which took me straight back to some really lovely memories in a previous role.

Monday afternoon suddenly feels far more achievable.

Sometimes making time to stop is exactly what we need when we feel like we donโ€™t have time to stop. ๐ŸŒฟ

Smiling is infectious,
You catch it like the flu.
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.
I passed around the corner,
And someone saw my grin.
When he smiled I realized,
I'd passed it on to him.
I thought about that smile,
Then I realized its worth.
A single smile, just like mine,
Could travel round the earth.
So, if you feel a smile begin,
Don't leave it undetected.
Let's start an epidemic quick,
And get the world infected!

Back on Harbour Radio this afternoon, covering for Albert Cadmore from 2โ€“4pm ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ

This week Iโ€™m joined by my good friend Catherine Cook from , Riverside Reformer Pilates

Weโ€™ll be talking Pilates, movement, womenโ€™s health and pelvic floors , but with Cath and I, I think itโ€™s probably safest to expect the unexpected! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Plenty of real conversation, probably a few laughs, who knows where the chat will take usโ€ฆ and of course, some great music along the way.

๐Ÿ“ป Today | 2โ€“4pm | Harbour Radio 107.4FM
๐ŸŽง Listen online, on the Harbour Radio app or via your smart speaker.

What a fab day supporting Gardlines Wellbeing Wednesday as part of their Vitality Week

Very glad I decided to set up yesterday afternoon, because from the moment I arrived this morning it was pretty much back-to-back all day!

I did manage to sneak one photo while setting up thoughโ€ฆ and it was only fair that Nina got the first chance to know her numbers ๐Ÿ˜„

I started the day with 8 health & wellbeing check-ins booked and finished having completed 17, with people queuing for their chance to check in.

Nice to be in demand and definitely no opportunity for any more photos!

As always, the numbers were only the starting point. The really rewarding part was the conversations around them , understanding what was going on for each person, what mattered to them and setting realistic goals they could take away.

A huge well done to Sarah Burbage for pulling the whole day together. There was such a brilliant mix on offer, from rowing and pyrography to Slimming World with Rebecca in Caister & Gt. Yarmouth , paradigm-neurodiversity.uk , Fate and fortune and lots more.

It really demonstrated that wellbeing isnโ€™t one-size-fits-all. We all need different things, and today there really was something for everyone.

Really proud to have been asked to support Gardlineโ€™s Vitality Week with KnowU.

A busy, rewarding day doing exactly what I love , giving people the time and space to check in with themselves.

Looking forward to continuing the conversations started today and building on what was such a positive day.

Know your numbers. Understand your normal.

Yesterday I had a catch up with Kirsty Wiseman from KnowU Wellbeing .

We decided to do a check-in to help me understand my numbers.

Iโ€™m so pleased we did. I was petrified, as last year was a challenging year and I was worried what affect it had had on my body.

Thanks to Kirsty she put my mind at rest. All it took was a finger prick of blood and I found out my diabetes risk, cholesterol and heart risk. Thankfully it was all looking good and I have peace of mind that all is well.

If you want to find out more see below. Donโ€™t put it off, you might be surprised.

In case you missed itโ€ฆ

Iโ€™ve enjoyed covering for Albert Cadmore on Harbour Radio while heโ€™s been away.

Last Thursday, Chantelle Goslitski and Ollie from paradigm-neurodiversity.uk joined me.

We chatted about neurodiversity, mental health and Ollieโ€™s upcoming skydive fundraiser with plenty of music and general chat along the way!

Later, we were joined by Iris and her mum Gemma, along with George the Monkey. Iris came dressed as Michael Jackson and even George got involved! ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿ’

And Iโ€™m back again this Thursday from 2โ€“4pm, when Iโ€™ll be joined by Catherine Cook .
Weโ€™ll be talking Pilates, pelvic floors and womenโ€™s health and we havenโ€™t caught up for a while, so who knows where the conversation might take us!
