Simply beautiful words - a kind soul had written a letter to be read at her own funeral, her final goodbye to those she loved - these words were sung by

By the time you read these words
I have already gone,
and I know there'll be some days head
you'll wish I were still home.
But my days are done
my part is played,
and if I leave one thing,
it's gratitude for all the years
and everything they've been.
I've lived, I've loved, I've laughed enough
to fill a thousand years,
I've held the hands that mattered most
through all the passing years.
There's nothing more I'd ask of life,
no more I need to know,
my heart is full, my story told
so smile and let me go!

Trooping the Colour is held to celebrate the official public birthday of the British Sovereign and to honor the inseparable bond between the Monarchy and the Armed Forces. While the reigning monarch's actual birthday might fall in a colder month, this summer ceremony provides a grander spectacle in hopes of better weather.

The Royal Family

The historical roots of the event include several key elements:
Military Utility: The "Colour" refers to the brightly colored flags (representing different regiments) used on historic battlefields. Because the smoke and chaos of war made it easy for soldiers to get lost, officers would slowly march these flags, or "troop" them, up and down the ranks so every soldier would recognize their unit's flag as a rallying point.

BBC

Tradition: The practice of displaying the Colours dates back to the reign of King Charles II (1660–1685).

The British Army
Official Birthday: In 1748, King George II decided to combine his actual November birthday celebration with this military parade so the public festivities could be held during the summer.
