🌺 Our Remembrance Day Window — Lest We Forget 🌺

Our Remembrance window at Unique Funerals is a quiet tribute to those who served, those who sacrificed their lives, and the families whose lives were changed forever.

The red poppies and silhouette of a soldier remind us of the people behind the history — loved ones who left home to serve, and those who waited for their return.

As our community pauses to remember, we honour their courage, service and sacrifice. If you’re passing, we hope our window offers a moment to stop, reflect and remember.

We will remember them.

Mondays: We answer any of your questions

This week: “Are some funeral directors creepy—and what makes them feel that way?”

And “What do we think makes a funeral director creepy?”

It’s an honest question. When you’re unfamiliar with death and funerals, meeting a funeral director can feel daunting.

For us, feeling uncomfortable often comes down to someone’s behaviour: being intrusive, using unsettling language, making inappropriate comments, pressuring you into decisions or being overfamiliar when you need space.

As funeral directors, we find it unsettling—and, yes, a little creepy—when funeral directors take lots of photographs of themselves at funerals or of sealed coffins for their own publicity, particularly if they do so without first obtaining the family’s clear permission. These are deeply personal moments. A sealed coffin still represents someone’s loved one and deserves dignity and privacy.

Some families choose to have their funeral photographed, and that choice deserves respect too. The purpose, permission and wishes of the family matter.

At Unique Funerals, we believe you should feel comfortable asking questions, expressing worries and telling us what you do—or don’t—want. You deserve clear explanations, kindness and time to think.

We’re ordinary people doing a job that carries an extraordinary responsibility: caring for someone you love.

You should leave a conversation with your funeral director feeling heard, respected and reassured.

💙 Care is in the things we do, every day.

At Unique Funerals, compassion means taking the time to listen. Support means explaining each choice clearly, without pressure. Care means treating every person entrusted to us with dignity and respect.

Sometimes that means helping a family find the right words for a farewell. Sometimes it means reassuring someone who feels overwhelmed, or quietly attending to a detail they may never see.

From the moment you first contact us, through the care of your loved one, the funeral itself and the days afterwards, these responsibilities guide everything we do.

Across our Walkden and Eccles funeral homes, our purpose is the same: to care for your loved one and help you feel supported, informed and heard.

Your loved one matters. Your wishes matter. And the trust you place in us will never be taken for granted.

Whose story should a funeral tell?

Every funeral begins with a life: someone loved, someone missed, someone whose story deserves to be told with care.

A good working relationship between a funeral director and celebrant helps make that possible. But when we speak about our work, the focus should remain on the person being remembered and the family we are there to support.

Families deserve to be heard, to choose who leads the service, and to have their wishes respected. Our role is to listen, guide and bring those wishes together with quiet professionalism.

At Unique Funerals, we believe the greatest compliment is that a family felt supported and the funeral truly reflected their loved one.

Their life. Their story. Your wishes at the heart of every farewell. ❤️

Your trust. Our responsibility.

We are proud to share our NAFD inspection certificate, confirming that our Walkden funeral home met the membership requirements of the National Association of Funeral Directors following its inspection on 12 August 2026.

At Unique Funerals, we believe families deserve care, accountability and professionalism at every stage—from the first call to the care provided behind the scenes.

When choosing a funeral director, look beyond their social media.

Reassuring words, polished photographs and positive reviews can help you form an impression. But they cannot show you how someone’s loved one is cared for, whether facilities are suitable or whether procedures are consistently followed.

If a funeral firm is not independently inspected, how can you be reassured that it is meeting appropriate standards? Ask who checks its work, what standards it follows and whether it can provide evidence.

A lack of inspection does not automatically mean poor care, but families deserve more than assurances—they deserve answers.

Our certificate reflects our commitment to scrutiny and accountability. Our responsibility is to uphold those standards every day.

Dignity in our care. Respect for your wishes. Attention to every detail.

The things you don’t see at a funeral

You see the hearse, the flowers and the people gathered to say goodbye. But so much of a funeral director’s work happens quietly, before that day arrives.

The phone answered in the middle of the night.
The patient wait while a family takes a few more moments.
The gentle care of someone’s loved one, from the moment they come into our care.
The checks on identification, paperwork and refrigeration.
The careful preparation of clothing and personal belongings.
The conversations that help us understand what matters to each family.
The arrangements, timings and small details checked again.

You may never see this work, but it matters deeply.

At Unique Funerals, our responsibility begins long before the funeral and continues afterwards. It is there in how we care for your loved one, how we listen to you and how we help you through each next step.

Because the person you love deserves dignity every day they are in our care.

Remembering the people we love

Some days, a memory brings a smile. Other days, it brings tears. Often, it brings both.

We remember people in the stories we tell, the things they taught us, the songs that take us back, and the little habits we still notice every day.

If someone is on your mind today, you’re welcome to share their name or a favourite memory in the comments. We would be honoured to remember them with you. 💜

We’re Here When You’re Ready — Day or Night

Sometimes, being available 24 hours means standing quietly beside our private ambulance in the middle of the night.

Inside, a family is taking a few more moments with someone they love. We wait until they give us the nod that they’re ready. There is no rush.

When that moment comes, we care for their loved one with dignity and attention.

Unique Funerals is here for you, 24 hours a day.

💜 There is more to a funeral than the day itself.

Our mortuary upgrade at our Winton and Eccles premises is now complete, including new refrigeration and climate control.

At Unique Funerals, we’re about what really matters: the person entrusted to our care and the family placing their trust in us.

We don’t pose for promotional photographs behind a hearse or outside a crematorium. For us, a funeral is a deeply personal occasion, and our attention belongs with the family, the person who has died and the responsibilities we are there to fulfil.

Our approach is to be a reassuring, discreet presence. We want families to remember the love, the tributes and the farewell, without feeling that their private moment has become an opportunity to promote our business.

Photographs can have real meaning when a family wants them as a personal keepsake. That is a different purpose, guided by their wishes and privacy.

A photograph of a hearse also cannot show the daily care, careful preparation and quiet attention that take place behind the scenes.

The standard of care matters every day your loved one is with us—not just on the day of the funeral.

That is why we continue to invest in our facilities. Because dignity, respect and compassion should run through everything we do, whether anyone is watching or not.

Your loved one remains at the heart of everything we do.
