A lovely tribute for Remembrance Day at one of our local funeral homes
❤️REMEMBRANCE. COMMUNITY. NEVER FORGOTTEN.❤️
Today, something truly special has taken shape at R. Hough & Sons Funeral Services.
Our front window has been transformed by the incredibly talented Snow Graffiti into a tribute to those who served and sacrificed.
The three panels each tell their own story. One is dedicated to those who served during the First World War, another to those who served during the Second World War, and the third honours one of our own, Darren Deady.
Darren’s legacy lives on through his family and the incredible work of the Darren Deady Foundation, supporting veterans and making a real difference to the lives of people in our community.
I wanted to do something that recognised not only Darren himself, but also the work that continues in his name. It was important to me that his family were comfortable with the idea and that Darren was represented in a way that felt right for them.
There is something particularly special about knowing that Darren’s portrait will face Westhoughton’s cenotaph — a place where generations have gathered to remember those who served and sacrificed.
Although this is a temporary display, I hope that, while it is here, it encourages people young and old to pause, reflect and remember. The window will eventually come down, but the impact Darren has had, and the work his family continues through the Foundation, deserves recognition far beyond this.
This has been entirely funded by R. Hough & Sons Funeral Services, It is simply my way of giving something back to the town that has supported me and my family and recognising the good that continues to be done in Darren’s name.
A heartfelt thank you to the Royal British Legion Westhoughton Branch for joining us today and supporting this special tribute.Thank you for everything you do to support our veterans, serving personnel and their families. ❤️
And to Snow Graffiti, thank you for bringing this vision to life and creating something so meaningful for our community
To Julie, Daniel and everyone involved with the Darren Deady Foundation, you’re amazing!
And to Darren — it is a privilege to have your portrait here, facing a place of remembrance, as we honour those who came before. I hope this is something you will be looking down on proudly.
Lest we forget. ❤️
