Heart health matters
Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death worldwide, with stroke closely following. Many of these conditions are strongly influenced by lifestyle factors such as diet, smoking, physical inactivity, and ageing populations.
🌿 Research Spotlight
Effects of Essential Oil Inhalation on Daytime Salivary Cortisol and Systolic Blood Pressure
In a randomised controlled trial of 83 hypertensive patients, inhalation of a blend of Lavender, Ylang-Ylang, and Neroli was associated with significant reductions in systolic blood pressure and daytime cortisol levels.
The study suggests that aromatic compounds may help support autonomic nervous system regulation, potentially reducing cardiac workload and supporting vascular health.

Today’s incessant need for multitasking and constant digital notifications can cause ‘popcorn brain’ - a brain that is overstimulated and jumping between tasks, creating a real, physiological sense of exhaustion.

If this is you, try taking a 30-minute break from all technology and diffuse 3 drops of Bergamot, 2 drops of Clary Sage and 1 drop of Rosemary. This will help to restore clarity, re-charge your mind and encourage mental-emotional balance.

Navigating conflict can be challenging but essential oils can be powerful emotional allies. There are essential oils for all the emotions that can arise during conflict but one of the simplest things we can do when situations become too much is to get outside and move our body. Fresh air and distance can really help our nervous system deal with big feelings, so we highly recommend going out on a ‘reset’ walk.

To further support calm, clarity, safety and grounding while you walk take along this aromatherapy inhaler and inhale as you go. This is your portable ‘pause’ button that you can use to steady yourself before returning to the situation or choosing your next step.

To make your inhaler simply add 1 drop of Vetivert, 1 drop of Petitgrain and 1 drop of Bergamot to the cotton stick and secure inside the inhaler.

Vetivert helps anchor the body, slow the breath, and restore a sense of emotional safety.

Petitgrain softens irritability and mental agitation and clears emotional static before it builds.

Bergamot calms, uplifts and melts away anxiety.

Highly sensitive people (HSPs) are highly susceptible to burnout. This is because they experience faster nervous system overload from things such as noise, chaotic environments or emotional demands. They process information more deeply which leads to overthinking and increased mental fatigue. They are also highly empathetic meaning they have difficulties in saying ‘no’ and an inclination to prioritise others’ needs over their own.

If you’re experiencing fatigue and burn-out, the following essential oils can really help:

Valerian is a grounding oil that can bring you back to your body. It can help release trauma and tension and has a sedative action that helps you relax.

Rosemary has an energising effect that helps lift fatigue.

Lavender is calming and grounding and excellent for soothing a tired body.

Mix 4 drops Lavender, 1 drop Valerian and 1 drop Rosemary into 15ml of carrier oil and massage into your skin, all over your body (in a direction towards the heart) whenever you are feeling fatigued.

A new survey released this year by Endometriosis UK has revealed that the average time to receive a diagnosis of endometriosis in the UK has now reached 9 years and 4 months. The survey also highlights the struggles of individuals seeking diagnosis and management to help reduce the severity of symptoms:
39% of respondents reported needing to visit their GP 10 times or more before endometriosis was suspected. Additionally, 55% of respondents attended A&E with their symptoms, but 46% of these were sent home without treatment.

Endometriosis is a long-term (chronic) condition where tissue similar to the lining of the womb grows elsewhere in the body. It affects 1 in 10 women and symptoms can be severe and debilitating. Common symptoms include; pelvic pain, painful periods that interfere with everyday life, heavy menstrual bleeding and pain during or after s*x. It is thought around 1.5 million women in the UK are currently living with endometriosis.

Our Aromatherapist, Nicole Barton, has experience of this condition and reveals how you can use essential oils for both physical and emotional support. Head to our blog to read more. https://tinyurl.com/ydy7vkt4

It’s not uncommon for children to become hyperactive or emotionally dysregulated in the school holiday. This can be caused by the change in their daily routine and sleep patterns or overstimulation from holiday activities, travel or additional screen time. They might also be letting go of any pent-up emotions they may have been holding in at school.

If you want to cultivate a bit of calm this half-term we’d recommend the use of any of the following oils.

Mandarin
Chamomile (German or Roman)
Lavender
Yarrow
Vetivert*

* Research has shown Vetivert to be particularly helpful for children with ADHD and ADD.

We recommended putting one drop of each of your three favourite oils into a diffuser and diffusing when you wish to encourage a sense of peace and calm. This is ideal in the afternoon and before bed.

These oils are safe to use with children over 6 months with the exception of Vetivert which should only be used with children over 2
