Some things never change.

At Merritt’s of Midhurst Funeral Service, we don’t feel the need to reassure our community.

The trust placed in us has been built through kindness, compassion and simply being there when families need us most.

We are Midhurst, and Midhurst is a community where people look after one another in their own way. That sense of togetherness is something we’re incredibly proud to be part of.

✔️ Get to know your funeral director—not just the office staff.
✔️ Ask to look around the premises and see where your loved one will be cared for.
✔️ Read genuine reviews and hear what other families have experienced.
✔️ Ask questions. A good funeral director will always take the time to answer them.
✔️ Choose a funeral director you feel comfortable with and can trust.

Thank you for continuing to trust our family to care for yours. We will always be here, just as we always have been. 💙

Today, we are honoured to introduce someone very special to the Merritt's of Midhurst family.

Neil James is an incredibly talented artist who creates beautiful bespoke paintings, each made even more meaningful by incorporating a loved one's ashes into the paint itself. Every piece becomes a deeply personal tribute – a lasting memory to be treasured for generations.

When I asked Neil what inspired such a unique and heartfelt idea, his answer was one that will stay with me.

"My wife and I sadly lost our son in a tragic accident. I wanted to paint a picture of my wife's choosing and mix his ashes into the paint, so that a part of him would always be with us in something beautiful."

From that moment came a way of helping other families remember those they love in a truly personal and everlasting way.

Neil's artwork is now proudly displayed throughout our funeral home and in our window. From much-loved family pets and majestic cats to stunning countryside scenes and wildlife, every painting reflects not only remarkable artistic talent but also the love and memories behind each commission. We simply love every single one.

Neil says: "I am very excited to be able to offer my skills through Merritt's of Midhurst Funeral Service and look forward to creating lasting memories that families will treasure forever."

It is a privilege to be able to offer this truly unique service to the families we care for. If you are passing by, please do take a moment to look in our window, or pop in and see Neil's wonderful work on display.

Because every life deserves to be remembered in a way that is as unique as they were. ❤️

At Merritt’s Midhurst, every family we care for is important to us. Occasionally, that care extends to those we have been fortunate enough to call friends.

It was an honour for Toby and The Reverend Canon Martin Lane to help return a dear friend home to South Harting, ensuring his final journey was one of dignity, compassion and respect. Some goodbyes are especially personal, and this was one of them. 💙

Today I spent a few moments beside Chichester Crematorium new water feature whilst a service was taking place.

Listening to the gentle sound of the water trickling down the tiers reminded me how important peaceful surroundings can be during difficult times. Water has a unique way of bringing calm, comfort and space for reflection when words are often hard to find.

A thoughtful addition that I am sure will bring comfort to many families in the years ahead.
