There’s a word we carry quietly in Wales, Hiraeth.

It doesn’t translate neatly, but I believe those of us who walk alongside grief understand it better than most.

It’s the ache for somewhere you can’t quite return to.
Not just a place, but a voice across the breakfast table.
A hand that knew yours without needing to try.
Ordinary moments that, in their absence, become sacred.
In this work, we see hiraeth every day.
It lives in the way a daughter smooths her father’s jacket one last time.
In the pause before a casket is closed — that fragile, suspended breath where love and loss stand side by side.
In the stories shared quietly at the chapel door, as if speaking them softly might keep them close a little longer.
Grief is not only about saying goodbye.
It is about carrying forward what cannot be replaced.
Hiraeth is the echo of love that refuses to fade.
It is homesickness for a person, for a time, for a version of life that felt whole.
And while it aches, it also tells a truth we sometimes forget in the weight of loss:
That something beautiful was here.
That it mattered deeply.
That it still does.

To those feeling its pull today — be gentle with it.
You’re not meant to outgrow love.

You’re meant to carry it, in all its shapes. 🕊️

On this beautiful Bank Holiday Monday, while many are enjoying a well-deserved day of rest, our funeral director, Rhys, is out doing what he does best—supporting our local community.

Rhys is spending his day lending a hand at Llangyfelach Church, Swansea , offering support and helping to maintain the beautiful church grounds. We are incredibly proud of his dedication and commitment to giving back, rain or shine (and thankfully, today it's shine!).
