"Just give it time" can be bad advice in some cases when it comes to persistent aches, pains & injury.
Here are the signals worth paying attention to:
1. Pain that changes how you move.
If you're limping, guarding, or avoiding using something completely, that's your body compensating, and compensation patterns tend to create a second problem on top of the first one.
2. Pain that's getting worse, not better, after a week or two.
Most minor strains ease up gradually. If something's trending the wrong direction despite rest, it's worth a proper look rather than more waiting.
3. Numbness, tingling, or weakness.
This is different from normal muscle soreness it can mean a nerve is involved, and it's the one category where "give it time" isn't always the right call.
On the flip side, general stiffness, mild soreness after exercise, or discomfort that eases as you warm up is usually just your body adapting, and moving through it is often the right thing to do.
