Thank you for sharing this. 💙 Cat Burns explains something that can be incredibly difficult to put into words with such honesty and clarity. Every autistic person's experience is unique, but conversations like this help increase understanding, reduce stigma and encourage empathy. At ISLTS, we see every day how important it is to listen to autistic voices and support people to communicate in the ways that work best for them.

💙🧡 AUTISTIC PRIDE DAY – 18 JUNE 🧡💙

One of the key messages of Autistic Pride Day is:

🧡 "Hire for the skill, not the performance."

Many recruitment processes focus on confidence, eye contact and interview performance rather than a person's ability to do the job.

Autistic and other neurodivergent individuals bring valuable skills, perspectives and strengths to the workplace. By focusing on talent and potential, employers can build stronger, more inclusive teams.

At ISLTS, our Neurodiversity in the Workplace Training helps organisations recognise strengths, reduce barriers and create workplaces where everyone can thrive.

💙 Supporting communication for all ages.

Today is Rare Chromosome Awareness Day.

This is our fantastic Speech and Language Therapist, Helen Magee Cert.MRCSLT, working with T.

T has Hoover-Fong Syndrome, a very rare genetic neurodevelopmental condition. Like many children and young people with rare chromosome and genetic disorders, T experiences communication differences which can affect everyday interactions, learning and social relationships.

At ISLTS, we help children and young people develop the skills they need to communicate confidently through personalised assessment and therapy tailored to their individual strengths and needs.

We are proud to support children and families living with rare conditions and to raise awareness of the communication challenges they may face.

Supporting communication for all ages.

At ISLTS, many of our team members juggle parenting, caring responsibilities, and work, so we understand just how demanding life can be. During Carers Week, we stand alongside carers everywhere, recognising the incredible difference they make every day. We are committed to supporting, valuing, and advocating for this crucial support system, helping to create a more inclusive world where carers receive the recognition and support they deserve

Over the past year, our partnership with Lapwing Education has delivered meaningful support for young people with Selective Mutism across Norfolk and Suffolk.

2025–2026 Impact Highlights:

• 18 young people referred for specialist support
• 37 bespoke clinics delivered with families, professionals and young people
• 8 personalised therapy plans created
• 5 formal diagnoses provided
• 10 Maintaining Factors reports produced to guide support teams
• 2 students left Lapwing with a diagnosis and a clear pathway for next steps

Most importantly, the feedback speaks for itself:

⭐ 100% of parents surveyed said the support provided was helpful
⭐ 100% of Lapwing managers felt the support benefited both students and staff

We are proud to continue working alongside Lapwing Education to help young people with Selective Mutism find their voice, build confidence and access the support they need to thrive.

Receiving reviews like this means the world to us. Marianne is an amazing therapist and an extremely valued member of the ISLTS family.

"We have been working with Marianne for nearly two years now, and she has become very loved by our daughter!
From our very first appointment, when our daughter was really struggling, Marianne and her colleagues were so compassionate and patient, it really made such a huge difference. Acknowledging and accepting being part of the neuro-diverse world is hard at first, but Marianne has been so supportive and positive throughout. For any parents out there considering help with their children's speech, we cannot recommend Marianne enough. Early intervention is so important with young children and you won't regret reaching out to these people. It's one of the best decisions we have ever made."
