We’ve deliberately waited until the Courts have sentenced the Hull funeral director to 20 years in prison before writing anything publicly.
First and foremost, our thoughts are with the families who have been affected by the tragic events in Hull. No sentence, and no words, can ever undo the pain and heartbreak they have endured. It is only right that the criminal justice system has held him accountable for his crimes.
Over the past two years, this case has understandably generated significant public concern about the standards families should expect from a funeral director. It is important to recognise that the business involved operated outside the scrutiny and professional oversight of either the National Association of Funeral Directors (NAFD) or the National Society of Allied & Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF).
At Gedge and sons we are proud to be members of BOTH! We are regularly inspected and voluntarily regulated under the UK Funeral Director Code, and families also have access to an independent complaints process through SAIF, delivered by an externally audited, Chartered Trading Standards Institute-certified body.
We hope these safeguards provide reassurance that every family who places their trust in us can be confident their loved one will always be treated with dignity, respect and the utmost care.
As always, we will continue to do what we have always done—serve every family with compassion, professionalism and unwavering respect. Thank you to everyone who continues to place their trust in us.
