Did you know your shoe size may not stay the same throughout your adult life?

Over time, the structures supporting the feet can gradually change, which may cause
them to become slightly longer or wider.

A few quick facts:
👣 The arches may lower gradually over time
📏 Feet can become wider as ligaments and soft tissues change
👟 Shoes that perfectly fitted a few years ago may eventually feel tight
🦶 Changes in weight, activity levels and pregnancy can also affect foot shape

That is why it is worth having both feet measured occasionally, rather than automatically buying the same shoe size every time.

Did you know a blister is your body’s way of protecting the skin from too much rubbing?

This is such a great product.

When David and I were studying podiatry at Cardiff Met, we spent a lot of time looking at pressure. Whether it’s a stubborn corn, chronic callus, or metatarsalgia, the root cause is almost always the same: too much load over too small an area.

Traditionally, the options have been a bit polarised. You either use felt padding that flattens after a few days, or you wait an extended period of time for modified/custom orthotics.

We wanted a middle ground, something that offered immediate, clinical-grade offloading (pressure relief) but could be customised on the spot, whether by a practitioner in clinic or by a patient at home.

Such an important subject

Misdiagnosis of foot melanoma in patients is a frequently reported issue.

Myself and colleagues have recently published a paper proposing a new acronym to promote awareness of melanoma masquerading as foot ulceration.

And remember, be suspicious of any non healing wound. Although rare, melanoma of the foot can masquerade as many other conditions. Recognition of suspicious features, such as unusual characteristics of the lesion, longevity despite treatment, and lack of the typical features associated with diabetic foot disease, such as ischaemia and neuropathy, should prompt the clinician to undertake a biopsy to rule out malignancy, including as melanoma.

Most foot health care practitioners are losing local home visit bookings because of a five second mistake on their business page.
​I spent the weekend speaking at a practitioner conference about how to manage a digital presence without losing your evenings to stress.
​While I was there we did a live five second audit of the profiles in the room.
​The audience was filled with brilliant clinicians who provide incredible patient care. But when it came to their online profiles many were completely invisible to the local families who need them most.
​Here is the reality for mobile health businesses.
​If a busy adult child is looking for someone to visit their elderly parent they will not hunt for your information. If they cannot see your phone number and the specific towns you travel to within five seconds they will move on to the next practitioner.
