Ostomies

There are many different types of stoma and each one can be created for a multitude of different reasons.⁣
⁣
The image above gives you a look at just how varied stomas can be, from those involving the bowel and bladder to stomas that support feeding or breathing. We often hear the word ‘stoma’ and immediately think of an ileostomy or colostomy, but there is so much more to understand.⁣
⁣
I’m interested to know, which of these have you got, or which ones had you already heard of? I personally live with an ileostomy, but I’d love to hear your experiences in the comments.

Q: What tasks can I expect a carer to carry out?

A: : Almost anything involved in the process of daily living. This may include shopping, cooking and cleaning but also ‘personal care’ tasks such as bathing🛀, helping to get dressed🧦👗, dealing with continence 🚽 and helping to bed🛏. The important thing is that we agree a care plan in advance so that everyone knows what is (and what is not) required. This plan is written down and reviewed on a regular basis, so as your needs change the care plan is adapted.

There are some tasks we are not allowed to help with. These include cutting toe nails and giving injections.
