Did you know your eyes change in small ways throughout your life - from your 30s right through to your 60s and beyond?

The lens, focusing muscles and blood vessels in your eye naturally alter with age, which is exactly why regular eye tests matter, even when your vision feels fine.

Catching changes early makes all the difference.

We've put together a guide on what to expect decade by decade, plus simple tips on preventing eye strain and supporting long-term eye health.

Read the full blog via the link, and if it's been a while since your last check-up, you know where we are.

Quitting smoking benefits far more than your lungs - it's also one of the best things you can do for your long-term eye and ear health.

Smoking is a known risk factor for cataracts and age-related macular degeneration, and has also been linked to hearing loss. If you're taking part in Stoptober this year, well done - and if you'd like a check-up to see where your eyes and ears are at, we're here to help.

Ever noticed small spots, threads or shadowy shapes drifting across your vision? These are called eye floaters, and they're extremely common - most of the time, completely harmless.

But a sudden change, or new symptoms like flashes of light or a shadow spreading across your vision, can sometimes need urgent attention.

Our latest blog covers what causes floaters, when they usually settle down on their own, and the signs that mean it's time to book an eye test. Read the full guide via the link below. πŸ’™

A huge thank you to everyone who popped into our branches last week and bought a slice for our Bake It Blue cake sale.

Thank you too to every branch that got involved and helped make it such a success. Every penny raised will go towards vital support and research through our charity partner, Alzheimer's Society.

It's this kind of support that makes such a difference β€” thank you for being part of it. πŸ’™

As we come to the end of National Eye Health Week, there's still time to book your sight test.

A regular check-up isn't just about your glasses prescription - it can pick up on early signs of conditions like glaucoma, and even flag health issues such as diabetes or high blood pressure.

If you can't remember your last one, that's usually a sign it's overdue. Pop into your local branch or book online, and let us take care of the rest. πŸ’™

Today, we're proud to celebrate International Day of Birmingham, the city where our story began. πŸ’™

In 1938, qualified optician and pharmacist Solomon Scriven opened the first Scrivens branch in Birmingham with a simple belief: people should always come first.

From that single branch in the Midlands to over 160 branches across England and Wales, we've grown a great deal over the years, but we're still a family business today, led by Solomon's grandchildren and guided by the same values of care, community and expertise.

Birmingham isn't just where Scrivens started. It's where our family story began, and where the foundations of who we are today were built.

Here's to the city that shaped us and the communities that continue to support us. πŸ™οΈ

πŸ‘οΈ This week is National Eye Health Week. πŸ‘οΈ

Many people think an eye test is simply a way to check whether their prescription has changed, but it's so much more than that. Our expert Optometrists assess your overall eye health, helping to detect potential issues before they affect your vision. πŸ’™

At Scrivens, we're passionate about helping you take charge of your eye health. That's why we're marking National Eye Health Week by revealing the truth behind common eye health myths.

Dozens of Scrivens branches are getting behind World Alzheimer's Day with our Bake It Blue cake sale, in support of our charity partner Alzheimer's Society.

We're also donating Β£1 to Alzheimer's Society for every screening carried out until 26th September - it only takes a few minutes, so why not book one in while you're there.

It's a small things that makes a big difference. Come along, grab a cake, book a free screening, and help us raise money for a cause close to our hearts. πŸ’™

As part of our Branch Out with Kindness initiative, the team on Cockton Hill wanted to offer a small token of kindness to a group doing brilliant work in their community - and chose Little Chefs Big Chefs, based at the LCBC Community Hub in St Helen Auckland.

The gift will support the group's Family & Youth Hub, a pay-as-you-can space offering activities, meals, laptop access, and support for local families.

Branch Manager Joanne Bestford said the team wanted to celebrate the everyday acts of kindness happening in their community, and that Little Chefs Big Chefs stood out straight away for the difference it makes to local families.

The nomination came from Jane Evans, a longstanding Scrivens customer who also supports the Hub's sessions. A brilliant example of community coming full circle. πŸ’™
