I’ve talked about it many times before. Chronic and long term stress causes these things to happen to our skin:

• Acne & Breakouts: Cortisol instructs your skin’s glands to produce excess sebum (oil), which clogs pores and leads to breakouts.

• Flare-ups of Chronic Conditions: Weakened immunity and inflammation exacerbate existing issues. If you have eczema, psoriasis, or rosacea, high stress levels often trigger severe flare-ups.

• Impaired Barrier & Dryness: Stress depletes the skin of structural proteins and lipids. This leads to transepidermal water loss, leaving skin dull, dehydrated, and flaky.

• Rashes & Hives: Stress can stimulate the release of histamines, leading to itchy, red, and raised bumps often referred to as an “anxiety rash” or hives.

• Premature Aging: Elevated stress hormones break down collagen and elastin, causing fine lines and sagging to become more noticeable.

• Hair & Scalp Issues: Extreme or prolonged stress can disrupt hair growth cycles, leading to conditions like telogen effluvium (temporary hair thinning or shedding).
