π¨ The "Bargain" Mobility Scooter Trap! π¨
"It was my dadβs... he only used it a few times!"
Sounds like a great deal, right? Unfortunately, buying a second-hand mobility scooter privately online can quickly turn into an expensive mistake.
Just this week, I visited a customer whose "2-year-old bargain" 8mph scooter stopped working days after buying it online. The reality?
β The scooter was actually 12 years old. β The correct 80Ah batteries had been swapped for undersized 50Ah scrap batteries. β Both batteries failed our discharge test.
The seller had put in just enough battery power to show it "working," took Β£500 in cash, and vanished. My customer was left with a faulty machine and an extra Β£350 bill for correct replacement batteries.
3 Things to Watch Out For When Buying Used:
π Hidden Battery Health β A green charger light doesn't mean the batteries hold power under load. βοΈ Electrical & Motor Faults β Controllers and chargers can have unseen, costly defects. π Safety Essentials β Brakes, tyres, and steering need proper technical checksβjust like a car!
Buying pre-owned IS a fantastic way to save money, but protect yourself. Reputable specialists (including Thrifty Mobility!) supply fully serviced, pre-owned machines that come with a genuine warranty and total peace of mind.
Remember: Itβs not a bargain if you end up paying for it twice! π οΈ
