Last Tuesday was International Drug Remembrance Day.

Each year, we put up our remembrance tree and take some time to think of the people we know who have sadly died due to overdose.

Unfortunately there were more names to add to the tree again this year.

Our peers went to the Wellbeing Hub to speak to people about near misses and to raise awareness of the risks these pose to potentially fatal overdose.

They managed to get out some Naloxone and to engage in meaningful conversations with staff and clients alike.

Drug users face such stigma and prejudice. We believe that people - all people - should be treated with compassion and care. This is why we will always meet people where they are at to try and education and reduce harm, and to not judge people circumstances.

Another year, another Notts Pride.

Our theme for 2026 was ‘HOPE’. Though Pride is a day to celebrate, it is also a day to stand in solidarity, to reflect and to remember what injustices the community still faces today. Pride is a protest and we wanted to remember that this year.

A lot of people ask why we still need Pride, sometimes people see how far we’ve come and think that the work is done but there is so much more to do. Pride has always. Even a protest, and continues to be.

We want to thank every single person who came to see us - for a chat, to play games, to write some advice to your younger self or just to wave as the march went by.

Not only are we here for you at Pride, we are here for you every day. We will continue to use our voices to advocate for you, to celebrate the wins and to mourn the tragedies. Existence is resistance.

This year our Notts Pride theme is ‘HOPE’, tied in with frogs because you know… Frogs. 🐸 🐸🐸

Come and see us outside of The Health Shop on the day to pick up some s**g packs, test your sexual health knowledge and play some games. We may or may not have space hoppers…

We also have an amazing windows display that was created by Handmade Nottingham.

Last week we attended the National Needle Exchange Forum (NNEF).

There was a diverse range of talks relating to Chemsex, peptides, women-specific services and peer distribution of exchange provision.

We came away with lots of ideas! Thank you to everybody who shared your knowledge with us.

Today we attended Trans Pride.

This year was the biggest march since Nottingham has hosted trans pride, and you could feel the strength in numbers.

Trans and/or gender diverse people have been under attack for some years now, much like the gay community was in the 1980’s.

It’s so amazing to see all the trans joy, but we can’t ignore the fact that people are angry and sad and exhausted, and rightfully so.

There cannot be LGBTQ+ liberation without trans liberation, and we must come together and stand in solidarity. We must resist and use our voices to speak up for what is right.

We are here with you in solidarity, not only in anger but in love, in peace, in hope.

Let trans people live.

Yesterday The Health Shop team - past and present - came together to celebrate the launch of the Rainbow Quarter with staff from the legendary G*i Project (Healthy Gay Nottingham) back together again!

Broad Street has been our home since we first opened almost forty years ago, and although the landscape has significantly changed, the heart of Hockley hasn’t.

We are so proud to be a part of its heritage and to offer a safe space to the LGBTQ+ community not only now, but during times when there weren’t many.

Nottingham having its own Rainbow Quarter is amazing and shows the strength and solidarity we have in our city, and we are so excited to be a part of it.

We know that this isn’t the end and that there is still more that can be done, especially as we are living in such a divisive times with peoples rights and livelihoods being used as political propaganda.

Existence is resistance. And we are here to exist and resist with you.

Thank you to everybody who supports us and cheers us on, we appreciate you all. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️

Last week our peers spent a day at the Wellbeing Hub talking to people about near misses.

We know that a persons risk of fatally overdosing is significantly higher if they have already overdosed recently, so our peers were raising awareness of this to clients, staff and visitors.

Thank you to everybody who came and chatted with us.

We were honoured to have a stall at the launch of the Notts Q***r History Project on Friday at Central Library.

It was lovely to see some familiar faces and to make some new friends, and to talk about the service and the q***r history in Nottingham.

We are always so touched to hear people’s stories about our service from the last few decades, we appreciate you all.

is doing an outstanding job at creating the Q***r History Archive. One thing that stands out is how strong the LGBTQ+ community is - and has always been - in our city. 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️
