👁️🚗 Mandatory Eyesight Testing for Older Drivers – What You Need to Know

If you’re an older driver, or supporting a loved one who is, it’s important to understand the rules around eyesight and driving in the UK.

At present, drivers aged 70+ self-declare that they meet these standards when renewing their licence – but there is increasing discussion around introducing mandatory eyesight testing for older drivers to help improve road safety.

👁️ Why regular eye tests matter:

Even small changes in vision can happen gradually and go unnoticed. Conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, or macular degeneration can affect driving ability long before symptoms are obvious.

The UK Government is considering significant changes to the way older drivers demonstrate that they meet the eyesight standards required for driving safely.

Our car park is still extremely icey so we have closed it off, please find an alternative place to park if you are driving (there is car park next door to us which is free for 2 hours).

Please also use the path that we have cleared with grit and salt when walking across the car park to access the practice as all other areas are extremely slippy! ❄️
