❤️ Making Heather’s wish come true! ❤️

Here at Beeston Rise, we were so excited to make one of our resident’s wishes come true!
Heather has often said to me, “I would love to go to another ice hockey game,” so we knew we had to make it happen. 🥰

On Saturday 5th September, Jess, our Lifestyle Assistant and Jakub, one of our Care Assistants, picked Heather up, wrapped up warm and took her to a pre-season ice hockey game to watch the Nottingham Panthers take on the Cardiff Devils! 🏒

And what a game it was! From the moment we arrived, Heather was smiling and enjoying every second. She loved watching the action on the ice, taking in the atmosphere and cheering along. ❤️

Ice hockey holds such a special place in Heather’s heart, as it was something she used to enjoy with her children and grandchildren. For Heather , being able to experience another game brought back some very special memories for her. Especially seeing the famous mascot paws. 🐾

It was more than just a trip to watch an ice hockey game, it was about listening to Heather, remembering the things that matter to her and helping her create new memories while reconnecting with old ones.

We are so happy that we could help make Heather’s wish a reality, and we hope there are many more adventures to come! 🏒❤️

Because every resident has a story, a wish and memories worth making. ✨

☕️💙 Lots happening at Beeston Rise! 💙☕️

We’ve got some lovely community events coming up this September, including our Community Coffee Mornings every Friday morning, Social Afternoon on Wednesday 23rd September, Macmillan Coffee Morning Friday 25th September and our Blue Light Breakfast every Tuesday morning ! 🧁🎲🎶

We love opening our doors and bringing our residents, families, friends and local community together for good food, great company, plenty of laughter and lots of memories made along the way. ❤️

Everyone is welcome, so come along, grab a cuppa and join in the fun! 🥰

🍻 A trip to the pub! ❤️

We recently took the lovely couple Anne and Derek out for a special trip to the pub, something they had both been missing since coming to Beeston Rise. 🥰

They fancied getting out, enjoying some new scenery and having a proper afternoon together, so we made it happen! 💕 Anne enjoyed a Strongbow, while Derek opted for a Heineken, and of course, the afternoon wouldn’t have been complete without plenty of singing along to the songs playing in the pub! 🎶🍻

It was so lovely to see Anne and Derek enjoying each other’s company, having a laugh and simply enjoying being out together. Outings like this give our residents the opportunity to continue enjoying the things they have always loved, while maintaining choice, independence and a sense of normality. Being out in the community provides a change of scenery, encourages social interaction and conversation, and creates opportunities to make new memories together. Most importantly, it supports their emotional wellbeing, relationships and happiness, while ensuring that life at Beeston Rise continues to be about living life just as they want. ❤️

Seeing the smiles on their faces and hearing them singing along to the music made it a truly special afternoon. Two happy residents, a few drinks, lots of singing and memories that will last a lifetime! 🥰🎶🍻

🌊🐟 A day at the seaside! 🍦❤️

Some of our residents were missing the seaside and wanted to see the beach again, so we decided to make it happen! We cancelled our usual two Myley Tour trips and instead packed up the bus and headed off to Skegness for a full day of fun, memories and adventure. 🚌🌊

After a 2 hour 20 minute journey, we finally arrived and it was absolutely worth the drive! Our first stop was fish and chips from the seaside, which made one of our residents especially happy as that was all she had been hoping for! 🐟🍟❤️

We then made our way down to the seafront, where the beautiful view of the sea and the sound of children playing on the beach brought back so many wonderful memories. Our residents chatted to us about holidays they had enjoyed over the years, sharing stories and reminiscing about seaside trips from their younger days. 🥰

Of course, no trip to the seaside would be complete without an ice cream! 🍦

Brian decided he wanted to get a little closer to the sea. So that's exactly what we did! We enjoyed a lovely walk along the beach, with the sand beneath our feet and the sea beside us. Seeing the huge smile on Brian's face made it all worthwhile. ❤️🌊

As we started making our way back towards the bus, we unexpectedly came across Mickey Mouse and a Stormtrooper! 😂 We couldn't possibly walk past without stopping for a photo! 📸⭐

We also had time to explore some of the shops and pick up a few little treats to take home for our families because what's a day out without bringing something back? 🛍️❤️

One of our residents summed the whole day up perfectly, saying:
“That’s made my year and brought back so many memories.” 🥹❤️

And it truly did. When we returned home, our residents couldn't stop talking about their day, especially Brian, who was still telling everyone about his seaside adventure!

Days like this are so much more than simply going out for the day. They give our residents the opportunity to make choices, experience new surroundings, maintain connections with the wider community and continue doing the things they have always enjoyed. Being at the seaside encouraged movement and gentle physical activity, while the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of Skegness provided wonderful sensory experiences and opportunities for reminiscence. Sharing stories about past holidays encouraged conversation, strengthened relationships and supported cognitive stimulation, while simply having something exciting to look forward to brought happiness, purpose and a real sense of adventure. 🌊🧠❤️

Most importantly, it gave our residents the chance to live in the moment, create new memories and enjoy life outside of the care home. Because getting older shouldn't mean the adventures stop. sometimes, you just need to take the care home with you! 🚌❤️🌊

What an incredible day at the seaside! 🥰🐟🍦

🧩💙 A Little Piece of Something Special at Beeston Rise! 💙🧩

Today our residents enjoyed spending some quality time together completing jigsaws 🧩✨ What may seem like a simple activity can provide so many meaningful benefits for our residents.

Jigsaws encourage concentration, visual awareness, problem-solving and memory, while also supporting hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills as residents pick up, turn and place each piece. 🧠👏

But it’s not just about completing the puzzle! We love seeing residents work together, help one another and share conversations as they search for those all-important pieces. It creates a lovely opportunity for social interaction and gives everyone the chance to contribute, regardless of ability.

For residents living with dementia, familiar and achievable activities like jigsaws can provide a sense of purpose, independence and accomplishment. There’s something really special about that moment when a piece finally fits - and the smiles that follow! 🥰

We adapt our jigsaws to suit different abilities, making sure everyone can take part at their own pace. Whether someone completes a whole section, finds just a few pieces or simply enjoys being part of the group, every contribution matters. 💙

A quiet afternoon, a few puzzles, plenty of conversation and lots of little achievements - exactly what meaningful activity is all about. 🧩✨
