💙 Carers Week 2026 💙

This week, we are recognising and celebrating the incredible contribution of unpaid carers in our community.

A carer is anyone who provides unpaid support to a family member, friend, or neighbour who could not manage without their help due to illness, disability, mental health needs, or age.

At our Practice, we understand the vital role carers play and the challenges they can face. If you are a carer, please let us know. By identifying yourself as a carer with the Practice, we can help ensure you receive information, support, and access to services that may be available to you.

Poole North PCN will be hosting 'Cake for Carers' on Wednesday 10th June - a chance to meet other carers and have a chat with our carers leads and social prescribers. Please look out for the poster with all the information.

⭐️This week is Volunteers week⭐️

Are you interested in making a difference in your community and would like to hear more about what our practice volunteers do?

If so, please let us know if you would like to join us on Tuesday 7th July to learn more about Practice Participation Groups (PPGs) and how you can get involved.

PPGs are a great way for patients and practices to work together, share ideas, and help improve local healthcare services.

For more information please email us at: [email protected].

💙 Dementia Action Week 💙

This week is a chance to raise awareness, encourage understanding, and support those affected by dementia.

Dementia affects millions of people across the UK — not only those living with the condition, but also their families, friends, and carers. Small actions such as patience, kindness, and recognising the signs can make a big difference.

🧠 Common signs of dementia may include:

Memory loss affecting daily life
Difficulty concentrating or following conversations
Confusion about time or place
Changes in mood or behaviour

Early advice and support can help people live well for longer.

If you are worried about yourself or a loved one, please contact the practice to speak with a healthcare professional.

☀️ Warm Weather Warning ☀️

With temperatures rising this week, it’s important to take extra care — especially for older adults, young children, pregnant women, and people with long-term health conditions.

Here are some simple ways to stay safe during the heatwave:

💧 Drink plenty of water regularly
🧴 Wear sunscreen and light, loose clothing
🏠 Keep your home cool by closing curtains/blinds during the hottest part of the day
🌳 Avoid going out between 11am–3pm if possible
🍽️ Eat light meals and avoid too much alcohol
🚑 Check on vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbours

⚠️ Seek medical help urgently if you or someone else experiences:

Confusion or dizziness
Difficulty breathing
Severe headache
Chest pain
Signs of heatstroke (hot skin, no sweating, fainting)

For non-emergency advice, please contact the practice or visit:

We had a great turnout on Tuesday afternoon at our Veterans Event in Broadstone.

We were delighted to welcome guest speaker Rob Eaton from Rob's Filling Station and Project Q.

A big thank you to our GPs and Social Prescribers for supporting the afternoon, and our nursing team who were on hand providing blood pressure and cholesterol checks.

Special thanks to our fantastic Care Coordinators for organising a great afternoon and supporting our veteran community.

If you’ve served in the UK Armed Forces, make sure your GP Practice knows you’re a veteran. Registering can help you access dedicated NHS services and support for physical and mental health conditions related to service.

✔️ Tell your GP you served
✔️ Ask for your records to be updated with 'veteran' status
✔️ Access specialist support faster
✔️ Help healthcare professionals better understand your needs

It only takes a few minutes, but it can make a real difference.
